00:05we weren't, I wasn't trying to have her like wake up and do like bong rips or anything.

00:09But like she was a normal 30 year old.

00:11Oh, how we've missed Lizzie McGuire. But according to Hilary Duff, the long awaited revival

00:17just wasn't meant to be. And she's finally opening up about why.

00:20Hilary stopped by Jake Shane's podcast Therapist for its season two finale,

00:25where she got candid about the scrapped Disney Plus reboot and shared where she thinks Lizzie's life

00:30might have gone after that big movie kiss with Gordo.

00:34If you remember, Disney Plus had planned to bring back the beloved series with much of the original

00:38cast. But after filming just two episodes, the revival was canceled back in 2020.

00:44So what happened? Hilary says creative differences were the main reason.

00:48The team couldn't quite agree on how far Lizzie's story should go or how grown up she should really be.

00:54I think that there was, there was, um, you know, just disagreeances on how far we could take her

01:02and what, where she is as you know, she would have been when we were filming that like 30 or 31.

01:08And for me, I was that age, you know, and so I was just like,

01:17also felt so deeply connected to her as a character because we were the same.

01:22Hilary explained that she wanted to show Lizzie as a real relatable 30 something,

01:26social media, messy relationships and all. But the creative team reportedly preferred to keep

01:31things a bit more Disney clean. She joked that she didn't want Lizzie doing bong rips,

01:37but she did want her to feel like a real adult trying to figure it out.

01:40And what about Gordo, the fan favorite best friend turned maybe something more? Hilary says that while

01:46the movie ended with a kiss, she doesn't believe Lizzie and Gordo actually made it as a couple

01:50afterward. So I don't think they had a thing post. I think they had like maybe an almost thing post.

01:57I know, like again, like another swing at it that like didn't, yeah, devastating, right?

02:02In fact, she imagines Lizzie might have finally had a short-lived fling with her old middle school

02:06crush, Ethan Kraft. Hey, after all these years, Lizzie deserved that moment, right? Even if we never get that

02:13reboot, fans can take comfort knowing Hilary Duff still carries a lot of love and a bit of sass

02:19for the girl who once told us, this is what dreams are made of.
