Man Gropes Mexican President, Tries To Kiss Her

00:00Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has called for sexual harassment to be made a criminal
00:10offence nationwide after a man groped and tried to kiss her as she walked down the street.
00:15The incident took place near the presidential palace as Sheinbaum greeted supporters and took
00:19photos during a public walk. Moments later, a man suddenly approached her from behind,
00:24put his arm around her, touched her inappropriately and even attempted to kiss her neck. Her security
00:29detail immediately stepped in and pulled the man away. Authorities later confirmed he appeared
00:34intoxicated and has since been arrested. Sheinbaum, Mexico's first female president,
00:39later addressed the incident, saying she decided to file a police complaint after learning the man
00:43had harassed other women too. Sheinbaum has now urged for sexual harassment to be criminalized
00:53nationwide and announced a national campaign to educate men about respect and women's rights.
00:59Her appeal has struck a chord across the country where according to UN Women 2019 report,
01:07around 70% of Mexican women aged 15 and over have experienced at least one incident of sexual
