Taiwan's agency that handles relations with China has spoken out against new restrictions Beijing has stated regarding next year's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, to be held in Shenzhen.

00:00The Mainlands Affairs Council says China is trying to hinder Taiwan's participation in next year's APEC summit,
00:07set to be held in the Chinese city of Shenzhen.
00:10The council, which manages Taiwan's relations with China, compared the situation to 2014,
00:16the last time China hosted APEC.
00:18Then, Taiwan was invited through cross-strait channels rather than directly by APEC organisers.
00:23And Beijing required that any meetings between Taiwan's representatives and other leaders be kept secret.
00:30They pointed out that cross-strait relations are now far worse than they were in 2014.
00:50China views Taiwan as part of its territory and does not like it when Taiwan participates in international events.
