00:00Wednesday marks 36 days of the government shutdown, officially the longest in U.S. history.
00:05The House has been on a session since September 19th, as the Senate keeps trying to pass and fail
00:10a stopgap measure that would fund the government until mid-November. We did hear from Senate
00:14Majority Leader John Thune, who said that his chamber will vote later this week on a longer
00:18stopgap measure to buy the parties more time to negotiate full-year spending bills. A new bill
00:24could give Democrats an opportunity to make fresh demands, as we're getting a glimpse that an off-ramp
00:29could be coming together for a longer-term solution. Leadership doesn't appear to be talking,
00:34but a group of bipartisan rank-and-file senators are holding conversations about a potential vote
00:38on extending the expiring Affordable Care Act premium tax subsidies at the heart of Democrats' demands.
00:44Republicans are holding the line they're not going to negotiate with Democrats until the
00:48government reopens, but a potential promised vote on an extension of the ACA subsidies once the
00:54government is reopened could unlock a deal. Pressure is mounting as delays continue at
00:58airports nationwide amid a shortage of unpaid air traffic controllers. Plus, open enrollment
01:03has already started, and there are still big questions about the future of SNAP benefits,
01:07as that remains up in the air.
