White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt sharply rebuked New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani after he blamed President Donald Trump for bomb threats reported at polling locations earlier today.
During a White House briefing, a reporter asked Leavitt to respond to Mamdani’s remarks. Leavitt called the accusation “completely irresponsible and based on zero evidence,” adding that it was “sad to see someone at the top of the ticket say such things.”
She stressed that President Trump “had nothing to do with those threats” and condemned any attempt to politicize acts of intimidation during an active election. Leavitt said the administration was closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with law enforcement agencies to ensure voter safety and secure polling access.
Officials confirmed that several polling sites were temporarily evacuated as a precaution, though no explosive devices were found. Investigations remain ongoing, and security has been heightened at polling centers across the city.
Analysts say Leavitt’s strong response underscores the administration’s effort to separate law enforcement matters from political rhetoric, particularly as tensions rise during a heated election season. The FBI and local authorities have not attributed the threats to any specific group or individual.
00:00Zoran Mamdani blamed the president for bomb threats and intimidation at polling locations.
00:07He said, quote, part of the general approach of the Trump administration has taken to intimidate voters with baseless allegations of voter fraud as a means of trying to repress the voice of Americans across this country.
00:19I want to give you a chance to respond to that.
00:20Yeah, I saw those comments from Mamdani.
00:23I think they are completely irresponsible and they are based on zero evidence.
00:27And I think this is just another example of how the Democrat Party unfortunately stands for nothing.
00:33All they stand against is President Donald Trump.
00:36And I think it's quite sad to see that we have someone at the top of the ticket on an election day today saying such things about the president when he obviously had absolutely nothing to do with those threats.
00:45And on the shutdown, Democrats have been pretty quiet about the president's push for the nuclear option, terminating the filibuster.
00:52Is there any concern around here that Democrats might actually want Republicans to get rid of the filibuster so that one day when they're in power again, the door is already open for them to pack the Supreme Court, give statehood to D.C. and Puerto Rico, make mail-in balloting permanent, those kinds of things?
01:10I think the president has been very realistic and strong in his position on the filibuster.
01:15He's been very vocal about it.
01:16I just spoke to him about it.
01:17He feels really strongly about this.
01:19Republicans need to play tough and they need to play smart.
01:21That's how the president feels.
01:23And we know that Democrats, when they, if they are ever given a chance at power again in this city, they will absolutely take away the filibuster from the United States Senate.
01:33In fact, you had 49 Democrats who already voted to do this before.
01:37The only reason it did not move forward was because you had two Democrats who are no longer in office because they were run out of town by the far left radical base of their party.
01:47And so President Trump is very quite clear on this.
01:50He wants to see Republicans move as many good pieces of legislation for our country forward in the next three years of his administration as they possibly can.
02:00And the filibuster is one means to doing that.
02:02Talk to Justin and Thune about it.
02:03I know that they have both voiced some opposition.
02:05Have there any conversations with them?
02:07He's had, he has.
02:08He's made his position to them very clear, both publicly and privately.
02:12Ouija.
02:13Can you help clear up some confusion about SNAP benefits?
02:17The president just posted that they will only be given out when the radical left Democrats opened the government and not before.
02:24But just yesterday, the administration said it would comply with the court order to expend the full amount of SNAP contingency funds by end of business day yesterday.
02:35So did the administration distribute that money or defy that court order?
02:40No, the administration is fully complying with the court order.
02:43I just spoke to the president about it.
02:45The recipients of these SNAP benefits need to understand it's going to take some time to receive this money because the Democrats have forced the administration into a very untenable position.
02:54We are digging into a contingency fund that is supposed to be for emergencies, catastrophes, for war.
03:01And the president does not want to have to tap into this fund in the future.
03:04And that's what he was referring to in his true social post.
