In his victory speech on Tuesday (Nov 4) night, New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani thanked his supporters and hailed what he called a mandate for change.  The 34-year-old democratic socialist will be sworn in as mayor of New York City on Jan 1, 2026. 00:30I can see the dawn of a better day for humanity.

00:38For as long as we can remember, the working people of New York have been told by the wealthy

00:45and the well-connected that power does not belong in their hands.

00:51Fingers bruised from lifting boxes on the warehouse floor, palms calloused from delivery

00:57by candle bars, knuckles scarred with kitchen burns.

01:03These are not hands that have been allowed to hold power.

01:07And yet over the last 12 months, you have dared to reach for something greater.

01:14Tonight, against all odds, we have grasped it.

01:25The future is in our hands.

01:31My friends, we have toppled a political dynasty.

01:38And now, I will be doing very well.
