A tariff system enacted by the American president on his first day in office has faced stiff headwinds over the last nine months and has redrawn trading relationships around the world – including with Canada where talks are now suspended.

On Wednesday, the policy will be thrust into the hands of justices at the U.S. Supreme Court, who will be forced to determine whether President Donald Trump’s signature economic policy fails or flourishes.
