00:00A U.S. Federal Appeals Court has temporarily reinstated President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs.
00:06This comes a day after a trade court wrote that the bulk of his global tariffs were illegal.
00:13The court granted a bid from the White House to suspend the lower court's order,
00:17which found that Trump exceeded his authority by imposing the duties and ordered a block on them.
00:23It called on the plaintiffs in the case to respond by June 5 and the government by June 9.
00:28In its appeal, the Trump administration argued that the decision had improperly second-guessed the president
00:34and risked unravelling months of trade negotiations.
00:38White House Trade Advisor Peter Navarro said the government would seek alternative ways
00:42to impose the tariffs if it ultimately loses in court.
00:46He added that the U.S. remained engaged in trade talks with other countries.
