Commonwealth Bank becomes the most awarded Australian company in Shonkys' 20-year history.
Transcript
00:00We have five Shonky's this year and the first of them goes to the CBA and that's
00:04for making bank off the back of Australia's poorest which they did when
00:08they charged 2.2 million of their low-income customers unfair fees to the
00:13tune of 270 million dollars. Our next Shonky goes to the Handy Heater Turbo
00:19800 for being a plug-in heater that does not plug in or heat anything. We also
00:25recognised Temu this year for being an unsafe haven of dodgy sales tactics and
00:31fast fashion and Temu in particular has a really poor track record of product
00:35safety and we thought it was time to call that out with a Shonky. Australian energy
00:40retailers also received a Shonky this year for pricing tactics designed to
00:44confuse and HCF also got one and that was for price rises in disguise. So for 20
00:52years now Choice has been calling out dodgy practices in relation to products
00:56services and businesses and we'd love really to not be still doing this after
01:01two decades but unfortunately we just find too many examples of these Shonky
01:05practices to ignore.
