'I did warn you all' about Trump, Obama says

Democratic norms in the United States are buckling under pressure from the Trump administration as Republicans in Congress, the Supreme Court and business leaders refuse to check President Donald Trump's "autocratic impulses," former President Barack Obama says during a speech in Norfolk, Virginia. "I will admit, it's worse than even I expected, but I did warn you all," Obama says as he campaigns for Abigail Spanberger, the Democratic nominee for Virginia governor, ahead of a November 4 election.

00:18Leigh!
00:24President Obama
00:26see some of this coming.
00:30I will admit it's worse than even I expected, but I did warn you all, I did.
00:40You can run the tape.
00:45And by the way, he warned you too, because he said what he was going to do.
00:50I am worried about how quickly basic democratic rules and norms have been weakened.
00:56I am worried about how willing Republicans in Congress have been to surrender their role
01:02as members of a co-equal branch of government, refusing to buck the President even when they
01:08know he's out of line.
01:11I worry about a Supreme Court that, so far at least, has shown no willingness to check
01:16this administration's excesses, even when those actions break legal precedent and seem
01:23to defy the bedrock principle that no one is above the law.
01:29I worry about how readily not just business leaders, but others with influence in law firms
01:35and universities have been willing to bend the knee to this President's autocratic impulses
01:42to avoid retribution or protect profits or simply to avoid controversy.
01:49And I worry sometimes how we've come to accept this as normal.
02:01It's just a big deal.
02:02It's a big deal.
02:02Let's go.
02:04Seriously, I think we have a strong team here.
02:05We can find that what true policies have been taken.
02:06Let's go.
02:06It's a big deal.
02:07Let's go.
02:08You're going to do that.
02:09You're going to be the right for them.
02:11Yeah.
02:12That's the reason why you're니 to make the parents last year.
02:14That's how you're doing.
02:17The right thing you're doing can't do so.
02:20You're still enjoying your life.
02:21To help you.
02:22Especially not to be a pastor.
02:23It's not to be a pastor.
02:25I'm a pastor.
02:26It's a new family member where you can do it.
02:27I'm a teacher.
02:28I'm a pastor.
02:29I'm a pastor.
