00:00you live inside a story every morning when you wake up you slip back into it the story of you
00:10the main character the voice in your head the one who's been narrating your life since you
00:17first learned the word i but here's the question you never ask who's writing the story
00:24you think you're the author that every decision every belief every emotion comes from conscious
00:33choice but your story began long before you could write long before awareness it started
00:41with the voices around you parents teachers society each adding a line a rule a belief
00:49you're too much you're not enough be strong don't cry
00:54and little by little you began to edit yourself to fit the narrative
01:01psychologists call it narrative identity the internal story your mind tells to make sense of
01:11who you are it's how your brain organizes chaos it turns memory into meaning events into
01:18explanation and pain into plot
01:20because without a story the mind feels lost so it writes one
01:28but the thing about stories is they can be beautiful or they can be prisons
01:36so every time something happens to you your brain doesn't actually record the facts
01:44it records feelings instead it remembers how something felt and then you know it builds a meaning around it
01:52when someone left you didn't just remember the goodbye you remembered the ache the emptiness
02:01and your mind well it wrote the line i'm not worth staying for
02:06when someone yelled at you you didn't just hear anger you felt shame and your mind wrote i'm always the problem
02:17you didn't know it but each emotion became ink each belief a paragraph each wound a chapter
02:26that's how the story of you was written not by truth but by interpretation
02:36and the older you get the more you defend that story even when it hurts you
02:40because identity is comfort
02:46even pain feels familiar when it's part of who you think you are
02:49so you repeat patterns that match the narrative
02:52you seek people who confirm it
02:55you make choices that keep it alive
03:00you say you want change but but your story wants consistency
03:03it doesn't care if you're happy it just wants to make sense
03:09that's cognitive consistency
03:12your brains need to protect its version of reality
03:15if the story says i'm not enough you'll reject every compliment
03:20if the story says people can't be trusted you'll find proof in every silence
03:26if the story says i can't change you'll sabotage every opportunity to prove it right
03:32because deep down you'd rather be right than free
03:36it's safer that way
03:40but here's what no one tells you
03:42your mind isn't the story it's the storyteller
03:45and storytellers can rewrite
03:50every time you become aware of a thought
03:53every time you catch your inner narrator saying
03:55i always ruin things and instead ask is that true
04:00you're editing the script
04:01that's metacognition
04:06it's the moment you step outside the story
04:09and realize you're not the words
04:11you're the awareness behind them
04:14that's where change begins
04:19you've been taught that life shapes your mind
04:22but what if your mind shapes your life
04:25what if every thought is a line in the book of reality
04:29and your attention is the pen that writes it
04:32because what you focus on becomes the theme of your story
04:35you write your life story
04:36everyone has a story they tell themselves
04:39so what storyline is your mind writing for you
04:43is it focusing on the joys of golden opportunities
04:46or the dread of worthless dirt
04:48not the one you post on social media
04:51or share at family gatherings
04:53but the one running quietly in your head every day
04:56this story isn't written in a book
05:00or carved into stone
05:01it's shaped by the way you think
05:04moment by moment
05:05your mental narrative is free
05:08you get to write it
05:10edit it
05:11and publish it every day
05:12stop letting your mind exaggerate
05:15catastrophize
05:16or replay old fears
05:17so
05:18let's have a bit of fun with this
05:20and see why we think certain ways
05:21and what we can do to hopefully steer our minds
05:24on a positive constructive and optimistic path
05:27focus on what's missing
05:32and well you'll live in scarcity
05:35focus on what's possible
05:37and you'll live in expansion
05:39your mind isn't just describing your world
05:43it's creating it
05:45every moment
05:46every sentence
05:48every belief
05:51but here's the twist
05:54most of your story
05:56isn't even being written by you
05:57it's being written by your subconscious
06:00the hidden ghostwriter of your life
06:03it uses memories you've forgotten
06:05emotions you've suppressed
06:07patterns you've repeated for years
06:09it fills in the blanks with echoes of your past
06:13that's why you keep ending up in the same situations
06:19different names
06:20same feelings
06:22until you face what's buried
06:24the story writes itself
06:25you cannot change a story you refuse to read
06:31that's why awareness is painful
06:33because it forces you to see
06:36how much of your life has been written by fear
06:38but it's also the first step to authorship
06:42a DEFCON level refers to the
06:44defense readiness condition system
06:46used by the United States military
06:47to indicate the level of alertness
06:50and readiness for potential military threats
06:52there are five DEFCON levels
06:55with five being the lowest state of alert
06:57and one being the highest
06:59meaning imminent or ongoing nuclear war
07:02I'm only going to focus on levels one and two
07:05as they are the most dramatic
07:07and most fun to discuss
07:09in my world
07:11the highest level of danger
07:13is awarded to the mind of a teenager
07:14I write this as a father of teens
07:17and it is undoubtedly a story
07:19playing out in many households
07:21because once you see the ink
07:26you can choose a new sentence
07:27a new belief
07:29a new way to be
07:30it doesn't erase the past
07:33it reframes it
07:34and suddenly
07:35what once felt like punishment
07:37becomes purpose
07:38what once felt like loss
07:41becomes lesson
07:42the story doesn't change what happened
07:44it changes what it means
07:46you've spent your whole life
07:51being the character
07:52now it's time to become the author
07:55stop waiting for the plot to fix itself
07:58stop re-reading the same painful chapters
08:00you are not trapped in your narrative
08:03you're just unaware
08:04you're the one holding the pen
08:06and every moment you choose awareness over autopilot
08:12you rewrite the ending
08:14because maybe you're not meant to find yourself
08:19maybe you're meant to create yourself
08:21your mind is a story
08:26but it's not finished yet
08:27and maybe
08:29the most powerful thing you'll ever do
08:30is start writing it on purpose
08:32mind scripted
08:36you are the author of your own mind
08:39you are the author of your own mind
08:39the author of your own mind
08:56it's third rotating
