Trump hints at resumption of underground nuclear tests
President Donald Trump did not answer directly when asked on Oct. 31, 2025 whether the United States would soon resume underground nuclear tests. 'You'll find out very soon,' Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One as he flew to Palm Beach, Florida. Trump said on Oct. 30 that he ordered the US military to immediately restart the process for testing nuclear weapons after a halt of 33 years, a move that appeared to be a message to rival nuclear powers China and Russia.

00:00I have a lot of meetings there, and lunches, meetings, a lot of you.
00:06Are you talking about literally resuming underground nuclear detonation tests?
00:11You'll find out very soon, but we're going to do some testing, yeah. Other countries do it. If they're going to do it, we're going to do it.
00:16Okay, but you can't clarify whether you'll be able to resuming it.
00:18I'm not going to say yet. I mean, I know exactly what we're doing, where we're doing it, but other countries are doing it, and if other countries do it, we do it.
00:25All they have to do is say, the government is open, and that's the end of it.
