00:00I didn't realize you were a big blood donor.
00:02Yes.
00:02There was a story going on.
00:04We had a big blood drive here recently,
00:06and someone was telling this great story about you recently.
00:08You found out that we were doing a blood drive.
00:11Oh, yeah.
00:11Yeah, that's true.
00:12I did one here.
00:12I'm actually donating my kidney in six weeks.
00:14I really am.
00:15Really?
00:15I really am, yes.
00:17Yeah.
00:17That's amazing.
00:18What?
00:18Yeah, I don't know why.
00:19I got, like, bitten by the blood donation, but yeah, I love it.
00:22That's a big jump up.
00:23I'm doing an altruistic donation.
00:25I think that's amazing.
00:25Mid-December, yeah.
00:26Actor Jesse Eisenberg, best known for the social network
00:29and the Now You See Me films
00:31just revealed he's donating one of his kidneys
00:33to a complete stranger.
00:36During an appearance on the Today Show,
00:38the Oscar-nominated actor casually dropped the news,
00:40explaining that he's set to undergo surgery in mid-December.
00:43Eisenberg said he's long been a regular blood donor,
00:46and over time, that spirit of giving
00:48inspired him to take things a step further.
00:51He's making what's known as an altruistic donation,
00:53giving a kidney to someone he doesn't personally know,
00:56but who desperately needs one.
00:57In the U.S., nearly 90,000 people
01:00are currently waiting for a kidney transplant.
01:03Non-directed donors like Eisenberg
01:04can help trigger what's called a kidney chain,
01:07where one selfless act can help match multiple patients
01:10with life-saving transplants.
01:12Eisenberg shared that he first looked into donating
01:14about a decade ago,
01:15but only recently connected with doctors
01:17at NYU Langone Health in New York City.
01:20After passing all the medical tests,
01:22he's officially scheduled for surgery this December.
01:24And in true Eisenberg fashion, he's keeping it humble,
01:28calling the procedure essentially risk-free,
01:30and even ensuring his own family would be protected
01:32through a special donor voucher system,
01:35should they ever need a transplant themselves.
01:37Between promoting his upcoming film,
01:39Now You See Me, Now You Don't,
01:40and preparing for this life-changing act of generosity,
01:43Eisenberg is showing that real magic happens
01:45when you give a piece of yourself, literally.
