00:09always the case. Millions of years ago, a shark many times larger than modern-day great whites
00:13roamed the oceans, called the megalodon, and now a new study using 3D recreations of the
00:18massive creature's massive body indicate it could have downed an orca whale in just a couple of
00:23bites. Researchers say the megalodon would have been nearly 50 feet long. For reference,
00:27modern-day great whites only grow to around 21 feet long, and they weighed more than 121,000 pounds.
00:34That means that more than twice the length and many times the weight of a killer whale,
00:38it could have eaten one of the modern-day mammals easily. In fact, it likely would have even given
00:42much, much larger whales problems as well, since the megalodon is essentially the size of an adult
00:47humpback whale. Lucky for modern-day oceanic mammals, the megalodon went extinct some 3.6 million years
00:53ago.
