00:00Welcome to the video from the Car Magazine Tuning Blog.
00:10Today it's all about the new Firefly, the upcoming electric car from NIO, which will be launched in the first half of 2025.
00:18Firefly is not only the name of the first model, but also of the new brand itself.
00:23A clever move, because it makes the name easy to remember.
00:26The term Firefly means Firefly, and the car's design underlines this name with a compact and modern appearance reminiscent of the Honda.
00:38The front end features three round light elements on the left and right, framed by a black panel with slanted hatching.
00:46Added to this is a short hood, a contrasting roof, and a striking C-pillar.
00:51Designed by Chris Thomason, Vice President of Design at NIO.
00:56Firefly will be positioned below the existing NIO brands and targets a segment that lies between MINI and SMART.
01:04William Lee, the head of NIO, put it aptly.
01:08Firefly is smarter than MINI and more MINI than SMART.
01:13Launch is planned for April 2025 in China, and the vehicle should be available in Europe in the first half of the year, as Reuters reports.
01:20A particular highlight is the turning circle of just 9.4 meters, making the Firefly significantly more maneuverable than a MINI Cooper Electric or a Volkswagen ID.3.
01:30The trunk is also impressive, with a maximum volume of around 1250L and an additional frunk of 92L.
01:40The Firefly offers enough storage space for a small or compact car.
01:47NIO is still keeping technical details under wraps, but it is known that the Firefly, like all NIO vehicles, will be equipped with removable batteries.
01:55These batteries cannot be replaced at NIO's latest power swap stations, however, but it's specially developed, more cost-effective swap stations.
02:08The rear charging port and the large frunk could indicate rear-wheel drive, although this has not yet been officially confirmed.
02:14The Firefly is priced in China for 14,800 yen, which equates to just under 20,000 euros and puts it on par with its main competitors.
02:29Sales in Europe will be handled through NIO's existing dealer network, while the new Onvio brand will have its own distribution channels.
02:36Overall, the Firefly represents a modern, functional, and affordable electric car tailored to both the European and Chinese markets.
