00:00local residents have been frightened by news a killer might be loose in their neighborhood
00:14police found definite evidence of violence and foul play i couldn't sleep because i just knew
00:25that something was wrong we went down the basement the first thing that we noticed was blood at the
00:32top of the stairs that's when the body was located i got the sickest feeling in my stomach i thought
00:38i was going to pass out many people were scared there was a killer on the loose
00:45every suspect accused of a crime has the right to remain silent many agree to be interrogated
00:56anyway but they can stop the interview at any moment making it a race against time
01:02justice hangs in the balance
01:06truly after 8 a.m we received a dispatch of a missing person
01:23i was only about four blocks away from the house where i was dispatched to meet with miss neely
01:30upon my arrival she explained that she had not heard from or seen her daughter tiffany
01:38since the previous day all calls to her cell phone were going unanswered tiffany's mom
01:45was very anxious because this was just so not normal we learned tiffany brown was a 26 year old
01:54mother who was attending the ohio beauty academy and this was extremely out of character for tiffany
02:00she was in communication with her friends her family on a daily basis she also said the
02:07children of her daughter were left in the care of a neighbor the day before and they had not been
02:13picked up we learned she had young boys at home that she cared about that she would not just leave
02:20alone without reason or without explanation and that fact alone led me to believe that we had more here
02:28than just somebody that was going out for a good time on a friday night
02:32tiffany's car was found at a apartment complex about four or five blocks from miss neely's home
03:02the vehicle was unlocked the keys were present there's no indication of a struggle or
03:09anything of a violent nature within the automobile we could not find any connection to that complex in
03:15her it was very suspicious and we were growing concerned so that sinking feeling got deeper and deeper
03:24tiffany was a devoted daughter and a mom she had two young ones she worked hard she was work part-time was
03:38going to school full-time she just wanted to make a better life for her kids she loved taking the kids
03:45going to the zoo and the water parks and the beach it didn't matter she was always wanting to do
03:51something she loved cars she was right in there with me and clean her car wash her car show her how to
03:58take care of her car we would play this game where you could listen and tell what kind of car was coming
04:04down the street by the motor and tiffany was getting real good at that she would light up a room that's for
04:11sure she got along with everybody i didn't sleep all night i couldn't sleep because i just knew that
04:18something was wrong
04:19the text messages that we received indicated that sam littleton was the last individual to speak with her
04:37we learned sam littleton was tiffany's mother deb neely's boyfriend they'd been together for 15 years
04:46and tiffany of course always knew sam so there was a parental relationship there with him sam had a
04:54conversation with her about noon on friday the 11th the day tiffany went missing
05:00in this text conversation he requested to meet with her
05:06at that point they really wanted to talk to sam littleton
05:14we had tried numerous times to get in contact with him and he wouldn't return any calls
05:22we couldn't locate sam anywhere this raised a lot of red flags
05:26we asked her about how sam was interacting with her during the past couple days
05:44deb neely was becoming concerned about sam's behavior
05:50deb indicated to us that he acted strange she told us that he also had a cut on his hand
05:58sam told deb that he had cut it while working on the fireplace upstairs
06:02although deb didn't see anything that had been changed in the fireplace
06:06at that point there's a lot of red flags going off in her mind
06:11they had asked deb if they could take a look around the house
06:18detective salyer and i went down the basement and took a look around
06:23and the first thing that we noticed actually on the landing above the stairs
06:28was a drop of blood on a floor mat at the top of the stairs
06:32then we found numerous areas of blood spatter
06:37when we continued our search of the basement
06:40there was an area of the basement that was covered in debris
06:45we started taking everything apart down there
06:50that's when tiffany's body was located
06:53the body was partially clothed and wrapped in a large piece of carpeting
07:00the apparent cause of death seemed to be a knife wound to the neck
07:04there was multiple stab wounds
07:07and other indications of maybe asphyxiation
07:10when they found her
07:13i got the sickest feeling in my stomach i thought i was going to pass out
07:17he said he looked at that wood
07:20and he said he saw her hair
07:23and he said then he looked again and he saw her hand
07:27at this point it was pretty clear to us that deb had no involvement
07:39sam littleton became a prime suspect
07:43he's hiding key information from investigators and now he's missing
07:48richard and gladys russell were an elderly couple that lived just outside the city of bell fountain
08:05one of the neighbors had gone to the russell's house
08:10and noticed that their vehicle was missing from the garage
08:12they'd been missing for maybe about 12 hours
08:17when they contacted law enforcement
08:19we learned mr russell did have some health issues
08:23it was unusual for them to be gone for any length of time
08:27the logan county sheriff's office responded to the russell's residence
08:31there was no signs of a struggle in the main area of the house
08:36they continued the investigation
08:38and they were able to find a notepad
08:41mrs russell was very good at taking notes
08:44and keeping records
08:46but there was no other entries made after the 16th
08:50now prior to that
08:52there were entries made every morning
08:54at approximately the same time
08:56where she was taking his blood pressure
08:57and caring for mr russell
08:59when they took a look in the garage
09:03there was some blood found
09:05at the trunk area of where the car would have been parked
09:08at that point
09:10we're extremely concerned for the safety of the russell's
09:12richard and gladys were married in 1950
09:18they had been together for 61 years
09:21and by all accounts were inseparable
09:22they were relentlessly hardworking
09:25dick was a carpenter
09:26gladys was a bookkeeper
09:28each day when they would finish working eight-hour shifts
09:32at their different jobs
09:33they would come home and tend to the farm
09:36during farming season
09:37they were pillars in the community
09:39heavily active in community groups
09:42and civic organizations
09:43the bell fountain lions club
09:45the logan county fish and game club
09:47just you know to name a few
09:49they were incredible
09:51well-rounded
09:52generous people
09:54and everybody that was familiar with them
09:57loved them
09:58and they loved everybody back
10:01without condition
10:02looking into the notepad
10:16we found it had the name sam written on it
10:19and underneath the name sam
10:21was sam littleton's cell phone number
10:23while digging into sam's background
10:27they found out that sam had actually purchased his home in bell fountain
10:31from the russell's
10:32and had on occasion from time to time
10:34helped out with a few chores at their property
10:37now that we know that there's a connection
10:40we're extremely concerned
10:41we believe that he's probably in their vehicle
10:44and might have the russell's with him
10:47and also he could be armed and dangerous
10:50and we didn't know the extent of how far he would go
10:53the case blew up exponentially
11:02once they were unaccounted for
11:04you had multiple law enforcement agencies
11:06looking for the elderly couple's vehicle
11:09as well as mr littleton
11:1137 year old samuel littleton
11:12is wanted for the murder of 26 year old
11:14tiffany brown of bell fountain ohio
11:17and linked to the disappearance of an elderly couple
11:19richard and gladys russell
11:21a desperate plea from the family of a murder suspect
11:24we need you to come in
11:26just turn yourself in
11:28the suspect's father is clearly overwhelmed with emotion
11:31there was some nervousness
11:34many people were scared in the community
11:36there was a killer on the loose
11:38the russell vehicle was found
11:54in the parking lot
11:56of the local store
11:57they didn't see sam littleton
12:00they didn't see the russells
12:02no sign except for some blood in the trunk
12:06so we obtained video information from the store
12:10on it
12:12we see sam littleton
12:13it showed he had purchased some camping gear
12:17and those types of items
12:19which would indicate that somebody may be living in the mountains
12:22at the same time
12:27information was relayed to us
12:29that a lineman had seen
12:31an individual living in the mountains
12:34that wasn't normally there
12:35so west virginia state police
12:39went on a mission to locate this individual
12:41they began searching the area
12:57not too far from the store
12:59where the car was parked
13:01they found sam littleton
13:05he suddenly fled from them
13:07when we continued our search
13:09we found he had built a makeshift cave
13:12basically a primitive camp
13:14where he had been hiding out
13:15there was a tarp
13:17a sleeping bag
13:18an axe
13:19and some very minimal food items
13:21after maybe an hour
13:24sam littleton was apprehended
13:26by a west virginia state police canine
13:29he was subsequently arrested by state police
13:37the fugitive had been on the run
13:39since february the 18th
13:41littleton was taken to a local hospital
13:43before being transported
13:44to the state police barracks in princeton
13:46sam had been on the run for over a week now
13:55he was in a hospital gown
13:56he had injuries from the canine
13:59and his demeanor was just beat down
14:02our objective was to get as much information from sam as we could
14:06about what happened to tiffany
14:08and then of course we also wanted to be able to locate the russells as well
14:12it's very important to set the tone in the first few minutes of the interview
14:17we want sam to talk to us
14:19and the only way to get somebody to talk to us a lot of times
14:22is we have to be nice
14:24even though we may not want to be nice to this individual
14:28the man wanted for the murder of a 26 year old mother from bell fountain ohio was found hiding in the woods
14:54apparently not far from where he ditched a car stolen from an elderly couple who are still missing
15:00shortly after they found tiff we had a prayer vigil and everybody was there
15:07as the funeral was going on everybody's phone started blowing up
15:12you could hear the people's phones going off
15:15and they'd say you know we got him we got him
15:18it was like a kind of a rejoicing when he got caught
15:24when sam got arrested there was no signs of the russells
15:34so we didn't know if the russells were dead
15:37we needed to expedite as much information as we can from sam
15:42and hopefully locate the russells
15:45sam obviously we've got a million questions for you
15:49and we realized
15:51during the through this investigation things went really wrong at some point
15:56and you know we just asked that
16:00that you know
16:02you help us out help yourself
16:04what part is easier for you to talk about
16:08can you can you tell me what happened
16:11with tiffany
16:13or would you would you rather talk about
16:15uh... mr. or mrs russell
16:17i really don't know how it got started
16:22i think evil thoughts all the time
16:28evil thoughts all the time
16:30all the time
16:30i mean
16:31that's why i keep myself away from people
16:35okay
16:35i mean it ain't one minute that i don't sit here thinking about how to snap somebody's neck
16:41crush their head
16:43i mean there's many many times
16:46i could have just cut my stepmom up
16:50why why why would people think of that
16:53like right now they're still in there
16:55they're still in there
17:00i've done a lot of bad things in my life
17:04a lot of bad things
17:07well if you're from belfoundland you know my history
17:10i think that's to be honest that's what's kind of confusing i mean you've got a couple things
17:16well what i would consider very minor
17:19uh...
17:20you know with some marijuana
17:21you know with some marijuana
17:22things like that
17:23you've done a pretty good job
17:24of being able to control things
17:27you know what i mean
17:28i mean it's really
17:31i've definitely seen a lot worse
17:33in a history
17:34you've seen people have thoughts like this
17:36than what you have
17:38i've heard of people telling me this before
17:40that they've had thoughts
17:41but i don't have any
17:43i'll be honest
17:44i don't have any knowledge
17:45of what that's like
17:46so i appreciate what you're telling me
17:48because it helps me understand
17:50where you're coming from a little bit
17:52so we're being honest
17:55absolutely
17:56you know the first thing popped in my mind
17:58what's that sir
17:59how i can get your head to bounce off
18:00that thing back here
18:02and i'm being honest
18:03why does people have thoughts like that
18:06he's trying to scare us
18:08he wants to be the the big bad guy here
18:11and he wants to try to establish some point of dominance
18:15i'm sure it was a test to see what our reaction was going to be
18:19but we're just going to continue on with the interview
18:21and pretend like that part never happened
18:24i mean why can't i have good thoughts
18:26i mean why can't i have good thoughts
18:28there ain't no good thoughts
18:29they're all evil
18:31i think i think if you dig real deep
18:33you can find those good thoughts
18:35i've been digging for years
18:38you might have to dig real deep
18:39i mean there's people out there that love you
18:42we've talked to tons of your friends
18:45your friends all believe in you
18:47they were like shocked that any of this could have ever happened with you
18:52i mean they really this blows them away
18:56it still blows me away
18:58i just want to crawl up in that hole
19:00and just die
19:01that's all i want to tell you
19:02i just want to crawl up in that hole and die
19:04i deserve to die
19:06i deserve to die
19:07i deserve to die
19:08you need to feel better about yourself
19:10and the only way you're ever going to do that
19:12is to tell what happened
19:14and we all three of us know that you're a smart enough guy
19:17that you know exactly what happened
19:19is this something easy to talk about
19:21absolutely not
19:22we all know it's extremely tough and difficult
19:25i'm trying to make him feel like we believe he's a good person
19:29he's got to be comfortable with us
19:31he's got to think that we like him
19:33if we like him he's going to like us
19:35and if you like somebody you're more apt to tell them things that you don't want to tell
19:40that you don't want to tell
19:41see that's kind of hard to believe
19:43because i'm a lazy dude
19:44i would be scared
19:46mike would be scared if something like this happened
19:48how many days ago was this?
19:50Sam do you remember anything about the Russells?
19:55been at their house last week?
20:00no i ain't been at the Russells in a long time
20:07actually me and Deb was just talking about i need to get out there and talk to them
20:13you know we've got a million theories Sam
20:32when it comes to the Russells we know that the Russells liked you
20:37and that you guys had a connection there
20:40we've been told you would even be a nice enough guy that would go out and sometimes help
20:45the Russells around the farm
20:47okay
20:48um
20:49uh
20:51lo and behold we find
20:53you in the car
20:56and there's a lot that happened in between there
21:01a lot
21:05we needed to find out if the Russells were deceased
21:08so the pressure builds
21:11we knew he was holding back information
21:13he knew what had happened to the Russells
21:16what he had done to them
21:17he's just a coward
21:19just a monster of a person
21:21how'd you end up with the car Sam?
21:34I mean the keys to their car is in your pocket
21:37your fingerprints are all over that car
21:40what if I just went there and stole the car
21:43and I believe
21:45that they more than likely
21:48went with you without a struggle
21:50because that house is immaculate
21:53yeah we're either Mr. or Mrs. Russell ever sitting beside you in that vehicle
21:57do you deny the fact that you took Mr. or Mrs. Russell's car?
22:12no
22:14I got the car
22:16Sam yes or no did you kill the Russells?
22:20no
22:22Sam remember the very first thing that you told us when we sit down was
22:26I deserve to die for what I've done
22:29that tells us you know what you did
22:32what's left for you is to get it off your chest
22:36help you feel a little bit better
22:38give closure to those families
22:40you love the Russells
22:42we know you like the Russells
22:46they helped you
22:48you helped them
22:49you didn't work for them
22:50the only reason why these things happen
22:52is because you got scared
22:54and it's so hard for you to talk about
22:56Sam
22:57I think because
22:58you're a good person
23:00and this is truly eat you up
23:02you've wanted to do the right thing all along
23:07so why ain't I?
23:09the right thing is not always the easiest thing to do
23:12that's what's holding back
23:14Sam's withholding a lot of information
23:16so we decided that
23:18we would focus on the relationship between Sam and Deb
23:21and hopefully that would help Sam go ahead and open up
23:25and tell us what had happened
23:27Deb
23:29Jesus
23:30she needs closure
23:32not only did she lose her daughter
23:34but she lost the love of her wife
23:37she doesn't know why
23:40I don't think I'd be wrong to say Sam
23:42that you can't be with Deb for 18 years
23:45and not longer
23:46but I think you can certainly tell us what happened
23:49I think you remember
23:52just like it was yesterday
23:57it all started with Tiffany
23:59and that's something you can't forget either
24:04can you tell me what happened with Tiffany that day?
24:07she walked in
24:11did you ask Tiffany to come down to the basement with you?
24:15or did she come downstairs on her own?
24:19and where are you?
24:26and after that
24:27it went bad
24:28I'm glad I got your eyes coming for me
24:33sure
24:34you gonna be sick?
24:38yeah
24:39do you need some more water too?
24:41or
24:42it's late
24:52you alright man?
24:56it's hot here
24:57yeah it is
25:03hold me at least the door open
25:05there
25:11ain't like I can run anywhere
25:20I've never had a suspect get physically ill
25:23during an interview before
25:25he doesn't want to relive that event
25:27he just doesn't want to talk about those things
25:29because it makes him physically ill
25:32everything about him is telling us
25:34that he just wants to give up
25:36we needed to push him to keep talking
25:39okay
25:40you said something really bad happened to Tiffany
25:46but we don't know exactly what
25:49so I guess why does that bother you
25:51that something bad happened to her
25:54if you don't know what happened?
25:56I know something happened to her
25:59I'm having dreams
26:01what kind of dreams you have?
26:03bad dreams
26:06bad dreams
26:09and that's why you want to die
26:11that's guilt
26:13you close your eyes and you see it
26:16that's not somebody who enjoyed
26:22doing what you did
26:24that's guilt
26:26the only reason you feel guilty
26:28is because you do care
26:30you do care about what Dev thinks
26:34and you know she deserves to know what happened
26:39can we agree on that?
26:41she was my old wife
26:43I could do nothing without her
26:45so the only thing left
26:53is just to tell what happened
26:56excuse me
26:57you get me back in the state of Ohio
26:58and I'll tell you everything
26:59you get me back in the state of Ohio
27:00and I'll tell you everything
27:02everything. Be honest with me. I get you back in the States. Am I going to be able to find the
27:21Russells? And they're together? I can't remember that.
27:32But you'll be able to remember when I get you back in Ohio. I'm being honest with you. I don't know.
27:39The only thing we have to go on are the words that you tell us. But when you say stuff to us like,
27:48get me back to Ohio and I'll tell you everything, we believe you. We trust you. And then when we try to talk about it here,
27:56then you say you don't remember. So how, you know, do you understand what I'm saying?
28:00Yeah, yeah. I understand y'all two completely. I mean, y'all being right down the center of the line,
28:06ain't beating around no bush. I'm telling you right now, man, it's head. Just ain't letting me do nothing right now.
28:13Just driving. I ended up places that I don't, I can't remember. I just remember getting chased. That's where I went when this truck stops.
28:25God, I want to remember. God, I want to remember him. My head is full. It's split.
28:34Sam, the sooner that you tell us, the sooner this is all over.
28:38You got there, you helped me out.
28:48He's starting to close down. We needed to go in a different direction.
28:52It ain't gonna get no better.
28:54Sam's father contacted us and asked if he could speak to Sam.
28:58And we felt like we were at a point where maybe his dad had some insight or influence on Sam that would help us to locate the Russells.
29:08Your dad was in here today and he's got faith in you.
29:14When it comes to doing the right thing, he, you know, he was, he reassured Scott and I that you would do the right thing.
29:22Scott and I made a promise that we're going to keep to your father.
29:26He wants to see you and tell me he loves you.
29:28We're a man of our word. We're going to let that happen if you want it to.
29:38Yeah, let's just add to my headache.
29:40It's up to you, man.
29:42You know, but he just brought a gun and he just blew me away right here.
29:46Do everybody a world of favors.
29:48I don't think that's going to happen.
29:51You tell me what you want to do.
29:53Bring him in and get him.
29:55Are you sure?
29:57I ain't for sure about a lot of things right now.
30:01We spoke to Sam's father before to let him know what we were trying to do.
30:06He was there to get Sam to tell us exactly what happened.
30:10But we were taking a gamble on Sam's father coming into the room and assisting us in the investigation.
30:18It would be very easy for a family member just to let Sam know, hey, don't say another word and I'll get an attorney for you.
30:27We had decided that it would be a missed opportunity to get some more information out of him. So we may as well go ahead and do this.
30:36Is it okay if I tell your dad what you've told us so far?
30:49Sam's told us that something bad happened to the two, to the elderly couple.
30:59He's not able to tell us what happened.
31:01But he knows that they were alive when he was first with them.
31:04Right?
31:05And then Sam says, not exactly the details about what happened with Tiffany.
31:09But he's able to tell us that something bad happened there at the house.
31:14We don't know if he's intentionally not telling us or whether it's truly something that he's blocking out right now.
31:21You don't know.
31:23I saw you.
31:25I love you.
31:31Why?
31:32You was doing so good.
31:34I love it.
31:36You done bought you a car.
31:38You done bought you a truck.
31:42You had your motorcycle.
31:46I told everybody a long time ago that I wasn't right in the head.
31:52Ain't no excuse.
31:55From far, you know?
31:57Can't take back what I've done.
32:00What'd you do?
32:02What have you done this time?
32:05I don't know. I don't know.
32:16What made you do this?
32:25I've always had these thoughts.
32:27Now, if I come to you and told you about these thoughts,
32:30what's the first thing you're going to think of?
32:32This motherfucker psycho. He needs locked up.
32:34No. If you'd come to me, I'd took you to a doctor.
32:39Somewhere. Somehow, I'd have got you to a doctor.
32:44We'd have found out something by getting you some help.
32:53You need help.
32:55What kind of help are you going to give somebody like that?
32:59Come on, Dad. Have you ever had a thought of that?
33:02I'm your own best friend.
33:04Have you ever had a thought like that in your mind?
33:06Now, why would I?
33:08I'd be sitting a word grinding when they hurt somebody.
33:12Why?
33:14That's not my nature. You didn't grow me up to be that way.
33:17I didn't mean to bring us all on yet.
33:22I don't know. I don't know why. I don't know why.
33:26I don't know why.
33:28I don't know why.
33:29I don't know why.
33:30I don't know why.
33:31I don't know why.
33:32I don't know why.
33:33I don't know why.
33:34I wish you could have come.
33:35Get your daddy with it.
33:36Here's your go, boy.
33:37I'm just tired.
33:38I'm just tired.
33:39I'm just tired.
33:45I don't mean to bring this on you, but this is probably going to be the last time I get to see you, so.
33:56I know it.
33:57And these guys probably went out of their way just to have you come in here, so.
34:02I don't mean to do the cussing and all that. I don't.
34:05They came out here and they talked to me like I was a human.
34:21Same way, I'm a cussing criminal, and these two guys sat down and talked to me like I was a man.
34:25They didn't treat me no different. They treated me with respect than they have been ever since.
34:32Having the father in the room there may have been a turning point.
34:36Sam was talking with us more freely.
34:39It seemed like he wanted to tell his dad, but he didn't know how to tell his dad.
34:44We just felt like he was going to tell if we pushed him at this point.
34:48Like we said, the only way that we can end it real quick is for you to be able to tell us everything.
34:53You tell us one time, it's out there, it's done, and you don't have to tell anybody ever again.
34:58I mean, that's the quickest way.
35:01Can you end point where they got at?
35:06What highways was you in?
35:09I thought it was 75, but I don't know, dad.
35:13I mean, that's the only road I know. It's a straight shot.
35:16You know what I'm saying?
35:18Tell us where those people are.
35:24I mean, I want you. I want you. You don't know.
35:32I'm just a bad person. I tried to tell you that the other day.
35:36I'm so sorry, dad.
35:39I know it.
35:40I know it.
35:43You're not hooking.
35:44Absolutely.
35:47Even.
35:48Sam, are you okay with that?
35:54I love you.
35:56Pretty sore, Sam.
35:57Mommy and I would.
35:58Having his dad in the room really helped the situation.
36:04Sam basically admits to his dad that he did it.
36:07He doesn't come out and say that, but he never tells his dad he didn't do it.
36:11That was big.
36:30We're making sure he's alright.
36:31He's got a bad, bad leg.
36:33We will make sure that he's okay.
36:36Now we're at a point where he's already decided
36:39my dad knows this bad thing has happened.
36:43He's just about readying out if the opportunity is given to him.
36:47He's going to speak about committing the crimes.
36:51Like I said, both of us have been up front with each other.
36:53You know that we know.
36:56You know that you're...
36:57We believe that you're trying to help us, okay?
37:00So that's why we're working with you on it.
37:02I'm going to be as direct as I can possibly be.
37:04Regarding Tiffany, how did you kill her?
37:08You know what happened.
37:10It's just way, way too hard to say.
37:12I just hope you can fight in your heart to do the right thing here.
37:16Tell us what happened.
37:18She got strangled her.
37:19Okay.
37:20Any other type of weapon that you have used?
37:22She got a mind to stab her once or twice.
37:24Now, where she was placed, that obviously was so...
37:26She wouldn't be easily found.
37:27Is that a fair statement?
37:28I can't remember where she was now.
37:32I know the basement.
37:33Okay.
37:34Okay.
37:35And the Russells?
37:36Did you strangle her?
37:37I know the basement.
37:38Okay.
37:39And the Russells?
37:40Did you strangle both of those two?
37:41I mean...
37:42I was strangled.
37:43I ain't for sure.
37:44that obviously was so she wouldn't be easily found. Is that a fair statement?
37:51I can't remember where she was at. I know the basement.
37:58Okay. And the Russells?
38:02Did you strangle both of those two?
38:05I mean, I was strangled. I ain't for sure.
38:12And then did you stab them afterwards too, just like Tiffany?
38:19I think I might have done it. Did you tell us if it was after you left the house or was it still there at the house?
38:30I think it was at the house.
38:36After you had killed them, were they in the trunk or did you put them in any other part of the car?
38:43I think he was in the trunk.
38:46We finally got his confession that he killed them. I think he was tired and he was ready to just admit to what he had done.
38:55At this point, the only thing we don't know is exactly where the Russells are located.
38:59Sam, is there any way we can recover their bodies?
39:03Railroad tracks and a cotton field.
39:06Railroad tracks and a cotton field?
39:08Do you think one body is by the railroad tracks and one by the cotton field?
39:12What do you think?
39:13Yeah. All that news, I didn't get off 75 Barry Parker.
39:18All right, man. Thanks, Sam.
39:33Sam's information about the location of their bodies was vague.
39:38And he couldn't ever tell us what exit he'd gotten off, what road they were on.
39:44You would only say near a cotton field and near railroad tracks.
40:00Outside of Catanooga, Tennessee, local law enforcement were able to find the remains of Dick Russell.
40:07He was next to some railroad tracks covered in debris.
40:14We were doing a search on the area, but we couldn't locate Gladys.
40:18A week later, Gladys Russell was found in Georgia.
40:34He had laid Gladys in a cotton field a few hundred miles south of where Dick Russell had been located.
40:41Without the confession, if Sam Littleton had decided to end the interview, the families would have just been devastated because they would have never known what happened to them or got their bodies back for a proper burial.
40:59We have mixed emotions. He never gave us the exact reason why things happened, why he decided to kill the Russells, and why he decided to kill Tiffany. And I'm sure it haunts her family to this day.
41:18Hundreds of mourners came to the first church of God for Tiffany Brown's funeral.
41:23They say they're consoling the family and helping them get through the burial of Tiffany Brown at the Bell Fountain Cemetery, just a few blocks away from the church.
41:33The outpouring was just unreal. And even the police officers, friends of ours that we know, it just, it almost seemed like they hurt as much as we did when we got to the funeral.
41:48Sam Littleton's hands were shaking so bad that he could barely sign the plea agreement that keeps him alive but puts him in prison until he dies.
42:11That brought a lot of great relief to the families. I know that there were some that wish for the death penalty, but in the end, justice was served.
42:21Every day, you know, I miss seeing her, and she's not here to see these boys grow up. And that bothers me. Her oldest is going to graduate next year, and she's not here to see that.
42:46I miss her. I miss her every day, every minute. You miss the communication that's gone.
42:55The text messages in the morning, kiss on the cheek, love you, Dad. That's the hardest thing about it. It's gone. She is missed dearly every day.
43:06Damn.
