00:00Welcome to the 2025 Bounda Bird Olympics.
00:1028 students from five schools have gathered to compete, reviving a contest that once thrived
00:29in the 1950s.
00:30Here I am and that has been 1954 I think.
00:33To get the younger children back into doing what we used to do, it's great to see them.
00:40That's me.
00:41But I used to do a few birds like Reefus Whistler, Whistler Eagle.
00:50Some bird calls were more popular than others.
00:53Well, I would think that a yellow-tailed black cockatoo must be terribly hard but I hate
01:00to think what their lungs and their throats are doing.
01:15It can be quite a challenge.
01:27Many calls were unexpected.
01:34And unique.
01:55The revived contest, hosted by the Bounda Environmental Education Centre, has now entered
02:08its eighth year.
02:09It's hoped more local schools take part in the future.
02:12The top prize of best bird caller went to ten-year-old Otto West for his rendition of a yellow-tailed
02:22black cockatoo.
02:23Try and match that.
02:25Adrian Ridden, ABC News, Maroombula.
