02:03Somewhere that's never echoed to the sound of its thunderous 3-litre straight-8 engine

02:08Somewhere Sir Stirling loved and where he lived for more than 60 years

02:14It was here, in London, where Stirling Moss' 1955 mille mille journey actually began

02:30When he set off for Italy at the wheel of another Mercedes-Benz

02:33The beautiful 300 SL coupe

02:41And of course there can be only one place and time where this journey finishes

02:48At the Moss family home

02:52And at the time the SLR started its record run in 1955

02:56The time that gave the car its famous race number

03:017.22 in the morning

03:06I race because I love racing

03:09As a sport it was something very special

03:11I can't think of any life

03:13It's better than being a professional racing driver

03:15And the original 300 SLR was probably the finest sports car ever built

03:21Quite incredible

03:22I mean it really was the most wonderful machine to drive

03:267.22 is over in England since June for the memorial of Sir Stirling Moss

03:37And today we tried to fire up the engine

03:40Did some laps here to check if everything works

03:44And we're happy so far

03:45We're at the Royal Naval College in Greenwich

03:52Because basically it's like a sort of stunt double for the centre of London

03:56It's where people like Bond and such like come and film

03:59So that they've got somewhere that looks like Whitehall but is all closed roads

04:06This is where the camera guys have the time to sort of indulge themselves a little bit

04:11And get all those details

04:12The car looks great from every angle

04:14And we're really looking forward to someday

04:16Where we're going to be actually taking this out on the streets of London

04:19The 7.22, Stirling Moss's car

04:21Back to his house

04:22It's going to be something really special

04:24It's a once in a lifetime event today

04:31To get 7.22, the car that Stirling Moss made so famous

04:34On the 1st of May in 1955

04:36Back home here in London

04:37Where Sir Stirling spent pretty much his entire adult life

04:40It's truly magical

04:42We've had a helicopter up in the sky

04:44We've had people along the entire route through Westminster

04:47And then coming back to Mayfair here

04:49The car was filmed car to car with a tracking vehicle

04:52And cameras inside the car as well

04:55Just to capture everything once

04:56We had one chance to do this

04:58Stirling Moss winning the Millimillion in 1955

05:03In that car

05:04Is one of the great, great feats in the history of motor racing

05:08It was that car which kind of put Stirling Moss on the map

05:11They used to call him the boy wonder

05:12And he kind of became Mr Motor Racing after that

05:14The car stays being driven by Gert Straub

05:19Nobody knows those cars better than Gert

05:22They're kind of his family

05:24He is, I think, the fourth generation of his family

05:26To work at Mercedes-Benz

05:28The fifth and the sixth are already there

05:30He's retiring today

05:32So this is kind of like the last thing he's going to do

05:33What a way to sign off a career

05:35There really couldn't be anybody better

05:37Or more appropriate to be driving that car today

05:39At the beginning I was a little bit nervous

05:42Because there's always a pressure on the driver

05:44But now after we are finished there

05:47It's a fantastic feeling

05:49It's a race car designed to be on a racetrack full speed

05:52And not designed for stop and go traffic in town

05:56But the police did a perfect job

05:59They guided me through town

06:00And it was comfortable for me

06:02Going over the bridges was a special moment

06:05Seeing Big Ben left to me

06:08But I was always fully concentrated on the car

06:11Lady Moss has been tremendously welcoming here

06:15At her home in Sheppard Street

06:16And also their son, Elliot

06:18Who we'll see in the film as well

06:20Without their support and active engagement

06:22None of this would have been possible

06:23Throughout my entire life

06:25That race, this car

06:27Of all the cars we drove

06:29And there are a lot

06:30And this just meant more than anything else

06:32I mean, it's literally etched onto the building

06:36On his balconies

06:37My personal memory of it

06:40Is from 2015

06:43Which was the 60th anniversary in Brasher

06:47And I think the last time I ever did a public thing with him

06:51And that was the first time I ever sat in the driver's seat

06:55And had an idea of how difficult it would have actually been

06:58There's something for everyone in this film

07:03Whether you're a lifelong fan like me

07:05Or you're new to the story of the Mille Miglia and Sir Stirling Moss

07:08And we hope that people will spot some of the things

07:10That have happened deliberately

07:12And some of them by happy accident throughout the film

07:14And I think it's only fitting that 722 moves to a new phase of its life

07:19And we'll be taking her back to the museum in Stuttgart

07:22Where millions of people a year will get to see her

07:24Up close and in person

07:25And of course for all of the rest of us

07:27There's always this fabulous film

07:44We'll be right back to the museum in Stuttgart
