The band was formed in 1971 from the ashes of another band, Mountain Bus, which broke up following lawsuits filed against them by Mountain's promoters, who believed Mountain Bus was illegally using their name (despite Mountain Bus having formed in 1967, three years before Mountain). The band's founding members—Bill Kees, Craig Takehara, and Woody Sims—joined forces with Chicago blues rockers Elliott Delman, Lee Buch, Ernest Mansfield, and Ann Linquist to form a band called Sky Farmer. The band's musical style is quite diverse: improvisational jams with dominant keyboards, saxophone, flute, long guitar passages and enchanting vocals.
