00:00Tesla has followed through on its announcement and launched a rear-wheel-drive version of the Cybertruck.
00:08However, it has come in a form that is likely to disappoint many fans.
00:13While the starting price is around €65,000, slightly lower than the all-wheel-drive version,
00:20numerous features that originally made the Cybertruck so special have been removed.
00:24It seems as if Tesla's main goal here is to make the more expensive all-wheel-drive version appear more attractive.
00:33A year ago, the Cybertruck was one of the most anticipated electric vehicles on the market.
00:39Today, the reality is much more sobering.
00:43According to a recent report by Cox Automotive,
00:46Tesla only sold 6,400 units in the first quarter of the year far fewer than expected.
00:51This means that the Cybertruck has lost its position as the best-selling electric pickup truck in the United States.
01:00The crown now goes to the Ford F-Lightney, which delivered 7,187 units.
01:08To rekindle interest, Tesla has taken two decisive steps.
01:13First, it has expanded sales to Saudi Arabia.
01:16Secondly, the long-awaited version with only one motor and rear-wheel-drive has finally hit the market.
01:25Many had doubted that this model would even appear,
01:28not least because demand for rear-wheel-drive trucks is almost non-existent.
01:35Nevertheless, Tesla delivered,
01:36and this variant even offers the best range in the entire model range.
01:40This is a significant improvement over the originally announced range of around 400 km when the Cybertruck was first introduced.
02:01But this additional range comes at a price.
02:07The rear-wheel-drive version costs only about 10,000 euros less than the dual-motor model,
02:13but comes with significant limitations.
02:17For example, the 120-volt and 240-volt outlets are missing in both the cargo area and the cab.
02:23The cargo cover, the rear light bar, and the Cybertruck's distinctive front lighting have also been omitted.
02:32The interior features only textile seats instead of vegan leather,
02:36no heated seats in the rear, and no ventilation in the front.
02:40The sound system has also been scaled down.
02:43Instead of the 15 speakers found in the higher trim levels,
02:46there are only 7, and active noise cancellation is nowhere to be found.
02:51Ride comfort also suffers.
02:53Instead of air suspension,
02:55a chassis with steel sprains and adaptive shock absorbers is used,
02:59which is fixed at a ground clearance of 24 cm.
03:04By comparison,
03:06the more expensive models offer a ground clearance of up to 41 cm
03:10and are therefore significantly better suited for off-road driving.
03:16Strangely,
03:16Tesla has also omitted a storage compartment under the cargo area,
03:20which could have been used to accommodate a spare tire,

03:26One small plus point remains, however,
03:28the option to power external devices via the mobile connection has been retained,
03:33but only at 110 volts and 20 amps.
03:36While the vehicle still features the bi-directional inverter,
03:42the internal wiring and sockets have been removed,
03:45which Tesla reportedly saved less than 50 euros.
03:48For anyone hoping for the originally promised Cybertruck at a price of around 37,000 euros,
03:56this slimmed-down version will likely be a bitter disappointment.
