00:00Hello and welcome to Zoom. This is Kushmika and today we have some very special guests with us.
00:05We have the cast of Ek Diwani Ki Diwaniyat. Joining me today are Sonam Bajwa and Harshwar Dhanrani.
00:11Welcome to Zoom.
00:12Thank you, Kushmika.
00:13First of all, congratulations.
00:16Tell us a bit about the tour that you are in right now and how's it going?
00:19I just felt that people went out, bought a ticket.
00:25But when they went out of the house, they had to travel, they must be in the sun, they must have been sweating, they were standing in a line.
00:33I saw some photo of people standing in a line. It was an iconic photo of my life.
00:37Oh, wow.
00:38Yes, yes, yes. I know which one you are talking about.
00:40Yes.
00:40Yeah, what do you want?
00:41So, when they are standing, they will have a drink of water. They will have a drink of water from here and there.
00:47So, I felt if I have to say thank you, I should also touch these elements.
00:52Okay.
00:52I should be sweating.
00:53It's a very silly thought, but I felt I should be sweating while I'm thanking them.
00:59I don't know how else to put this, but this is what I felt.
01:02The first thought that came to me was, I have to be on the road.
01:06Because I had a sticker on my van in the start of my van and people requested that, please, buy a ticket.
01:13So, if that is, that's how I like to interact with people on ground.
01:19So, that's, usko naam log, road, tour, road, show, road, you can call it anything, but for me, it is saying thank you in person, where I can touch as many people, you know, emotionally or physically, just shake hand once.
01:37So, that's my way of showing gratitude and it's very gracious of Sonam to join us.
01:42Because, see, it's not about a guy and a girl, but it's about the physical aspect of it.
01:49Okay.
01:49But, she has been such a sport and I have, and you guys will be surprised.
01:55Jo ye princess, jasa ji jo, wo hai, demeanor hai, aura hai.
02:02She, you know, let go of all the comforts and went into the public and went into thanking them.
02:10Sab ke saad kande se ganda mila ke hai.
02:12That's very gracious of her.
02:13What do you want to add?
02:14It's actually really kind of him to, you know, have all of us experience something like that.
02:20Mane kabhi aise nahi kya tha.
02:22And it's genuinely overwhelming to see people love him like that.
02:28People, you know, getting so excited to get a glimpse of him.
02:34And it's just, it's amazing.
02:36It is amazing to see people responding to our character names, to the dialogues of the movie, to the songs when it's playing.
02:46It's so amazing.
02:47And I'm just so, so thankful to God, to him, to everybody in the team that I can, I could actually witness that in person.
02:57Absolutely.
02:58And I want to know this from both of you.
03:00Tell me, what are the characteristics of your role that you liked and, you know, kind of struck a chord in your mind and you said, yes, what are those for you?
03:09For me, the first thing that I liked about Adha was that she is so determined.
03:16She has her own mind.
03:19She's very courageous.
03:22She's imperfect for sure.
03:24So, yeah, I think these are the things that stood out the most for me in her character.
03:32And I kind of resonated with that.
03:35That she is that.
03:38To add to what she said, my sister Roini Rane, she's a...
03:43She...
03:43I found out after this film released that she is...
03:46Sonam Bajwa Slash Adarandava inside.
03:50Okay.
03:51I didn't know about her.
03:52And she described how Sonam has done the role.
03:56And when she said, no, my sister has felt so proud of how she has done it.
04:01And that's the day I was a little scared.
04:04Okay, my house is a Sonam Bajwa.
04:06A small version.
04:07But for me, what struck the chord with Vikramadete Bhosle would be naa sunnye ki aadat.
04:16And naa sunnye pere give up naa karna.
04:19Kyunki meri life ki Sonam Bajwa hai, meera career.
04:22Adarandava meera career hai.
04:24Jo naa hi bholta.
04:26Naa bholnye mein usko.
04:27Mataa, uska bhi apna reasoning hai.
04:29Or koji galat nahi hai ho.
04:31Unkei paas, unka reason hai.
04:33Mere paas, pyaar jatane ka reason hai.
04:36Toh, it is a nice takra av of two genuine perceptions.
04:42Two genuine desires.
04:46You know, needs, goals, dreams.
04:49Toh, mujhe woh badaa rezonate ho ha.
04:51Kye mujhe naa sunnye ki try karte rehen ho bhot maza hata hai personally.
04:55You could connect with the character.
04:56Ji, a lot.
04:57Because Harsh ko bhi usme maza hata hai.
04:59Vikramadete bhi usmeh shiddat se karta tha ho cheez.
05:02Toh, I felt that was connecting for me.
05:04Right, you know, tell me one scene that kind of tested you emotionally.
05:10There are multiple scenes, but I want to know this from both of you.
05:13Mention one.
05:13So, with me, actually, Ekotaay tested me as a person.
05:18Ekua tested me as an actor.
05:20Right?
05:20Toh, dono alag-alag, dauran, alag-alag time pe alag-alag scene ke hua.
05:26I think I was really tested as an actor, wo joo scene hai, jab wo tasweere phek ke moon pe maare hai.
05:35I was not motivated to be that angry, actually.
05:39Okay.
05:39But, of course, scene ka wha demand hai, director ka wha vision hai.
05:45Or, actor ka ka kaam hai, us cheez ko deliver karna.
05:48Good.
05:48Or, mujhe yaad hai, pehli baar, toh, mojhse hoi nahi raa tha.
05:52Or, and as an actor, you feel so bad ki pura set weight kar raha hai.
05:59Or, you know, like, ap figure kar raha hai ho.
06:01Or, ap kuch toh mind mein convinced nahi ho.
06:03Aapke khud ka bhi conflict chal raha hai.
06:05He came, he tried to.
06:07That was, I think, the first time he ever spoke to me, you know, for a scene.
06:12Or, I think, wo humara third day tha, shoot ka.
06:15I clearly remember.
06:16I think, usse pehle, toh, only, it was like, okay, hi, hello, how are you?
06:22Toh, Harsh came up to me, and he tried to, he was trying to help me.
06:28Because he saw I was struggling there.
06:30Toh, wo tha, aur, us din, wo late ho gaya, phir hua nahi.
06:35Phir uske baad, so that day, I really struggled as an actor.
06:38Because my inner thoughts of Sonam was conflicting so much with Adaz.
06:43And I was just not convinced, and I was not able to do that.
06:47But, yeah, thank God that another day, I was given a chance to redo that.
06:51And then we did it.
06:53So, yeah, I think, that is one.
06:57As an actor.
06:58As an actor, I was.
06:59Mujje toh lag raha hai ki, mein paida hi hua tha hai is,
07:02is taray ki chiz ko express karne ke liye.
07:05Maybe not just this role, but,
07:07Toh, to look at a girl with all my heart.
07:13I was born to look at a girl with all my blood and bones and flesh with everything.
07:23Abisco, technical language mein kaise bool Xiaomi mai mujhe pata nahi,
07:26but just to look at a girl with
07:29everything that I have
07:31I really enjoy this
07:37and to just
07:39So you don't want to mention any particular scene in that way
07:43Okay
07:46This is something which
07:49which I really felt I was
07:52Born to do
07:54Born to do
07:55Yeah of course
07:56Okay
07:56So tell me did you ever feel
07:59you know did you have sort of fear of being typecast
08:01you know this emotional
08:02obsessive or lover boy
08:04what kind of thoughts did you have regarding playing such characters
08:08Just explain what do you feel about it
08:10playing such roles
08:10Oh I would love to be typecast
08:15Yeah
08:16I was born to
08:24be typecast
08:26Who wouldn't love to be typecasted as
08:29President of Ashik community
08:32Who wouldn't
08:33Who wouldn't
08:34Who wouldn't
08:34Such a privilege and I'm so happy for him actually
08:37I don't know who would like to tell you that they have been
08:41But they have got this title
08:43And they have been so happy for him
08:46Absolutely
08:47You know and I want to ask this to you
08:50There is often
08:50actresses being told that they are part of the film as just a flower pot role
08:55But we are seeing you
08:56You are evolving
08:56You are playing such layered characters
08:58So what do you want to talk about the evolution that happened in terms of actresses role in the industry that you have witnessed
09:05I don't
09:07I don't
09:07I don't want to talk about Hindi industry
09:10because I'm still holding myself
09:12and I waited for myself to get a role
09:14where I can dance and glamour
09:19so that's what happened in this film
09:22I got to dance for the songs
09:25so that's why I'm very grateful
09:27because those are my absolute favourite songs
09:29whether it's Bol Kafara or Dil Dil
09:32I'm very happy
09:33and I'm very grateful for that
09:38that I also got the opportunity to perform
09:40it was an author-backed role
09:42so thanks to Milab, Mushtaq
09:45and I thought that I can do this
09:48here, of course, actresses like
09:53Alia Bhatt, Deepika, Kangana
09:55all have done such films
09:57which have been commercially successful
09:59and have also been entertained
10:00and have also gained money on the box office
10:03and Vidya Ma'am also
10:05so there are many actresses
10:07I don't want to talk about this
10:09but Tafsi also, yes
10:11so here all the actresses are doing so well
10:16and the commercial work that I do
10:18I know that somewhere
10:19every female actor
10:22desires something that I feel like
10:26that I was also required for the film
10:27this is a very basic thought
10:30you will also work in any office
10:32if your work is such a thing
10:34that when your wife is gone
10:36it doesn't happen to anyone
10:37so it doesn't feel good
10:39so very often
10:42female actors go through this
10:44that they are
10:45and I have gone through this
10:47that where
10:47you are really part of a film
10:49you are not really part of a film
10:51it has made no difference
10:52you know
10:53so
10:53so
10:54so
10:55my heart
10:55makes sure that you get roles
10:57and I have seen roles here
10:57and I have seen a lot of times
10:59that there are roles here
11:01and they are coming up again
11:01and they are coming up again
11:02like
11:03what I have done in the first film
11:05and in Hindi
11:06and what I have done in this film
11:07it is a lot of different
11:08so I have also got a little time
11:09but it is changing
11:12but
11:12yeah
11:13the percentage
11:14I would say
11:15is
11:15way lesser
11:17compared to
11:18the
11:19usual films
11:20but it is there
11:22right
11:23you know
11:24we all have seen a very rebellious side
11:25in your movie
11:26that you are not okay
11:27with certain
11:28characteristics of Aditya
11:30but tell me
11:31in real life
11:32what are the features
11:33that
11:34an ideal partner
11:35should have
11:35Harsh has gone
11:37in a meditative space
11:38last question
11:42I would love to be
11:44also typecast
11:45as a
11:45as a profitable hero
11:47okay
11:48with good box office members
11:50yes
11:50by telling me about this
11:52qualities in a partner
11:54yeah
11:55clean eyes
11:56clean
11:58beautiful eyes
12:00preferably
12:02blue green
12:04subha subha
12:06baut sundar lagni chihye
12:07aapko
12:08baat karne ke liye
12:12baut man karna chihye
12:13aapka
12:13bhaar bhaar
12:15just her presence
12:17without even talking
12:18should make you feel
12:19some thanda kheer
12:22abhi sare aikik word mein aap
12:24convert karna
12:25mujje waata nahi hai
12:25but
12:26this is my definition of
12:27good
12:28good
12:29companion
12:30and sonam
12:32I have next interview
12:34chep hoga na
12:35tab
12:35the list is not ready
12:38anything
12:39you know
12:40just a few things
12:41that
12:41very very basic
12:44very normal
12:45honest
12:47honesty
12:48you know
12:49and
12:50I think to me
12:53humility is very
12:55attractive to me
12:56so
12:56that should be
12:58one of the
12:58qualities
12:59yeah and
13:00then
13:00the rest of
13:02the things
13:02he should be
13:03obsessed with
13:05me
13:05no I am just
13:07saying that
13:07in a fun way
13:08but
13:08tell me a bit
13:09about
13:10the shooting
13:10experience
13:11how is it
13:11for you
13:12and for you
13:12blessing
13:13just a
13:14because
13:14this film
13:15was not
13:17really
13:17supporting
13:19this film
13:19initially
13:20for right reasons
13:22no complaints
13:23this is a
13:25business
13:26when it is
13:27not written
13:27so invest
13:29is
13:29okay
13:30so
13:32when I am
13:34saying this
13:34I am also
13:35saying this
13:35if you
13:36cut it
13:37so
13:37it will
13:38sound
13:38please
13:39request
13:40this
13:40so
13:43when this
13:44film
13:44was being
13:45made
13:45everyone
13:46lot of
13:47filmmakers
13:47said
13:48that
13:48it was
13:48very
13:48difficult
13:49to take off
13:59and
14:01it was
14:02really
14:03really
14:03because
14:04I don't
14:05say it
14:05it was
14:06really
14:06gracious
14:07of
14:07step
14:07one
14:08that
14:08Sonam
14:08to step
14:09in
14:10step
14:11two
14:13was
14:14Anshul Garg
14:15was that
14:17one man
14:18the first
14:18man
14:19who signed
14:21me
14:21after
14:22Sanam
14:22Diri
14:22Gassam
14:23re-release
14:23that shows
14:25the kind
14:25of
14:26spine
14:26he has
14:27that shows
14:28the kind
14:30of
14:30foresight
14:32he has
14:33thought
14:34that shows
14:35that shows
14:35that
14:35that shows
14:38that
14:39people
14:39hear
14:39that
14:40that
14:41shows
14:41that
14:41their vision
14:42is
14:43different from
14:43other people
14:44so the experience was a blessing for me personally
14:51because someone had a gamble on this film
14:56and his team, Raghav Sharma, Dinesh Jainji
15:01so the people who had a gamble on me was just one thing
15:05that this is their shame
15:08this man who has a shame
15:11this man who has a shame
15:14my day was the prayer that this man who has a shame
15:18so that I feel
15:21that's the guy I'm talking
15:25so these people who had already made so many
15:29they were already settled
15:30but I want to make sure they should feel proud
15:33and come out smiling
15:35so that was my only ask from God
15:39and I got lucky that Sonam Bajwa stepped in
15:45and I don't have to be politically correct here
15:49but I can promise you nobody in this country would have played this role better than Sonam Bajwa
15:54and Sonam Bajwa
15:55such a compliment
15:57very very kind
15:59you were really well
16:00and I loved both of you
16:02very much intense
16:03and you know I could feel you too were into the characters
16:06it felt very very real well by watching
16:08thank you that means a lot
16:09no no you are not
16:11no no no
16:12not at all
16:13you tell me about the shooting experience
16:15how was it?
16:16it was wonderful
16:17it was
16:19see
16:20when I was offered this
16:23when I was narrated this
16:26I already was so excited
16:28that wow
16:29I got the opportunity to do something like that
16:31we shot it in
16:32if I talk about the same thing
16:34then
16:35because of course
16:36it wasn't such a big budget
16:39we had a film in 30-31 days
16:43with five songs in it
16:45it was hectic
16:47but it was
16:48it was
16:49a lot of
16:50long hours of shoot
16:52but
16:53having said that
16:54and it's not that
16:55it's not that
16:56it's not that
16:57that's why I'm saying
16:58he made it
16:59like that working experience
17:01which was
17:02physically very tiring and exhausting
17:05into a very pleasant work experience for me
17:08because he was so supportive
17:10and
17:12not too many male actors
17:14I don't know
17:16usually what happens
17:18heroes
17:19they give them
17:20call time
17:21they give them
17:22they give them
17:23they give them
17:24a little time
17:25to be ready
17:26but a lot of times
17:27without even
17:28like convince
17:29it's a very slow
17:30I would just request
17:31Harsh
17:32that Harsh
17:33will you come a little
17:34early tomorrow
17:35before me
17:36take your shot
17:37so please
17:38come
17:39he would always
17:40say yes
17:41and I don't know
17:42too many male actors
17:43who would do that
17:44very very few
17:47I have not seen more than
17:48one or two
17:49who would actually agree
17:50you know
17:51because everybody loves their sleep
17:53everybody
17:54loves to be
17:56comfortable
17:57but he genuinely
17:58did way more than he was supposed to
18:01so
18:02he made that whole environment
18:04the vibe on set
18:05the work
18:07environment
18:08so healthy and so positive
18:09that
18:10that was a very good thing
18:11for me
18:12that was a very good thing
18:13so you have fun
18:14and the actors
18:15are so good
18:16so I got to learn
18:17too much
18:18and they did
18:19a lot of help
18:20in my work
18:21so for me
18:22that part was
18:23outstanding
18:24and yeah
18:26so I did that entire film
18:28looking forward to each scene
18:29that I had
18:30with him
18:31and it was fabulous
18:32right
18:33tell us a bit about
18:35any memorable anecdote
18:36of BTS
18:37that you know
18:38you are going to remember
18:39people bought tickets
18:41that's the most memorable thing
18:43I can promise you
18:44for an actor
18:45I always heard people saying
18:47that we had a lot of fun
18:48on the set
18:49I never understood those interviews
18:51because I always felt
18:52that you had fun
18:53a little picnic
18:54a little bit
18:55so I always feel
18:57that if you are
18:58on the set
18:59you are going to be
19:00reading
19:01the food is going to be
19:02that's okay
19:03but if people buy tickets

20:24what does that mean?
20:25that the audience

22:07and it is not
22:08can we ask you
22:09can we ask you one thing
22:10let me say
22:11did you feel that

23:24there is no substitute
23:26for hard work
23:27and he has put it
23:28very very nicely
23:30that
23:31you should never have

23:34and you have to do
23:36no matter
23:38you have someone's support
23:39you don't have someone's support

24:16really really hard
24:17and be consistent
24:19to finally be where you are
24:21I just want to add

25:34please
25:35leave it
25:36in 2026
25:37no one will use
25:38this word
25:39absolutely
25:40you know
25:41this is a very
25:42emotionally charged film
25:43and while shooting
25:44for such films
25:45it takes lots of preparation
25:47you are in that character
25:48so tell us a bit about
25:49your character switch process
25:51like how do you
25:52what do you do
25:53or does it take a
25:54mental toll on you also
25:55how is the process for you
25:57the acting process
25:58for both of you
25:59so I usually
26:00make a little diary
26:01for all my films
26:02this is my diary
26:03for Diwaniyat
26:04and I
26:05I kind of write
26:06notes about
26:08what is this childhood like
26:10how is his motivations
26:13I write
26:14what are his motivations
26:16you are obsessed with
26:18what is he
26:19how is he
26:20how is he
26:21how is he
26:22how is he
26:23how is he
26:25how is he
26:27makes him feel good what makes him happy how is this childhood is something i really focus on
26:32i really obsess with that then i make a graph ki wo kaisa kahaan jara hai film mein and then i
26:39see ki in his actions where is he going but emotionally where is he going so
26:45kanji baar flip hota hai ki action mein aapne kuch kar diya lekin emotionally aap yaa to uske ulte ho
26:53gahe thik yaa to thik uska jo agar aap action mein gir gây to emotionally aap upar culli raatơi
26:58so i do my i try my homework i collaborate with my writers like on this one mushtaak shikji
27:06and milab zaviri sir tono ke sath meinne permission li hun se chunki hunki property ho'ti
27:11you need to make sure that they are comfortable
27:16so that was my process
27:18I have studied my father for 16 years
27:21to play Diltoota Aashik
27:24Sonam?
27:27yes I mean I have not made notes as good as Harsh's
27:30but I have tried
27:32and I of course made a back story
27:36how she is after talking to the writer, director
27:40and when I listen to them on the set
27:44and then in the scene
27:46I try to be there
27:50you know I try
27:51I really try
27:53and I try to also listen to the director
27:57and then be in the moment and experience what happens
27:59and sometimes yes
28:02you do feel the weight of certain emotions
28:06even after a shoot
28:08I would say that
28:10it happens, it happens too
28:11but I have a lot of fun actually
28:16while doing it
28:17yeah because as an actor
28:19this was my desire from the beginning
28:22that I had a chance to do this in a genre
28:24where intense emotions
28:27you can feel
28:29you can pour in
28:30you can also take it from another actor
28:32experience
28:33I have always dreamt of that
28:36and it happened here
28:37and
28:38so it comes to fun
28:40it's such a privilege to actually
28:50experience some really honest emotions
28:53in the middle of a scene
28:55and that's the beauty of this profession
28:57and this art
28:58so there's a chance to be in a lot of scripts
29:00so there's a chance to be in a lot of scripts
29:01and for me
29:02pretty much this genre is the first one
29:04so it's fun
29:05it's been fun
29:06in some scenes
29:06but I enjoy that whole process
29:11of feeling it
29:12and you know
29:13you
29:13in your mind
29:14but before letting you go
29:24can we have one dialogue
29:25from each of you
29:26for our audience
29:27I would say
29:28that you can do anything
29:30I can't do anything
29:31and I will try it
29:34and I will try it
29:35so
29:36you only saw a woman's food
29:39and now
29:41you will see a woman's food
29:42thank you
29:43thank you so much
29:44thank you so much for the interview
29:45thank you so much for the interview
