00:00Let's start with the key players in this system.
00:03First, you have the solar panels themselves.
00:06They capture sunlight and convert it into DC, or direct current, electricity.
00:12But your home's appliances run on AC, or alternating current.
00:17That's where the inverter comes in.
00:20This device is the brain of the operation,
00:23converting the DC electricity from the panels into usable AC power for your home.
00:29From the inverter, the power flows to your home's electric panel,
00:34which distributes electricity to all your lights and outlets, just like it always has.
00:39Many modern systems also include a battery.
00:42This allows you to store any excess solar energy you generate during the day,
00:46so you can use it later when the sun isn't shining.
00:50Finally, you remain connected to the main electrical grid through a special meter.
00:54This meter is crucial because it can track power flowing in both directions,
00:59both from the grid to your house, and from your house back to the grid.
