The murders of a couple whose remains were packed into suitcases to be dumped have been described as “one of the most harrowing” the policing team has ever investigated.
00:00We're grateful to all of those who have helped us build this investigation, including Avon and Somerset Police,
00:06as well as the many witnesses who have provided detailed accounts of events which must have been extremely hard to share.
00:13Jostin Andre Moskera was jailed at Woolwich Crown Court for life, with a minimum term of 42 years on Friday.
00:23The murders of Albert Alfonso and Paul Longworth took place in Shepherd's Bush.
00:28But, of course, Moskera then travelled to Bristol, where he attempted to dispose of their remains
00:36and planned to haul them off Clifton Suspension Bridge, according to the prosecution.
00:44As a result, Avon and Somerset Police officers were also involved with the case.
00:50Mr Longworth was attacked with a hammer to the back of his head.
00:55Mr Alfonso's death was recorded as he was stabbed, with footage shown in court recording Moskera singing and dancing in the aftermath of the attack.
01:09He pleaded not guilty to murdering both men and insisted Mr Alfonso killed Mr Longworth.
01:16I would also like to thank colleagues from the Crown Prosecution Service and Council for their efforts in this case.
01:24We've worked closely with the LGBT plus Independent Advisory Group,
01:28and I'm immensely grateful for their support and the advice they have provided as we have monitored this investigation.
01:35This is a case which has deeply affected many people from all walks of life and has been traumatic for all of my colleagues involved to work on.
01:46This sentence sees justice secured for the cold-blooded murder of two innocent men
01:51and has taken an evil and dangerous offender off the streets.
01:54A sentence of this length demonstrates a seriousness with which the judge took his offending.
02:02My thoughts remain with all those that knew and loved Paul and Albert,
02:06and whilst nothing can bring them back,
02:08I hope this sentence offers some semblance of justice and closure
02:11as they continue to process the trauma of what happened.
02:16Good afternoon. I'm Miranda Jolly, Senior Crown Prosecutor with the Crown Prosecution Service's Homicide Team.
02:22First and foremost, our thoughts remain today with everyone who knew Paul Longworth and Albert Alfonso.
