00:03Last week in Brainerd, we had a bunch of crazy stuff going on.

00:08For starters, Ryan Martin, who had the lead in the Grade 8, didn't even qualify to race.

00:13That's because there's poor showing in the previous no-prep event.

00:17All you have to do is get past the first round and you're tied with Ryan.

00:21That opened the door for Kai Kelly, who was in second, to possibly take the lead.

00:25Instead, David Gates beat him in round one.

00:30David Gates gets the win.

00:34Kai Kelly will remain behind Ryan Martin.

00:38Gates was on fire.

00:39He took out Axeman in the semifinals.

00:41And David Gates!

00:44And Giuseppe in the final race.

00:49David Gates is your Grade 8 winner.

00:53That earned him his first win in the Grade 8.

00:56$10,000, 10 points, and he is now tied with Ryan Martin for first place.

01:01Tonight, the current top 8 in points will battle it out for that $10,000 and valuable points towards that individual championship.

02:27And, um, I don't know, uh, in the beginning, when I first heard the news about my stuff,

02:33and, you know, when you get told that, everything just freaking comes crashing down on you.

02:37And, uh, one person you're supposed to turn to is your other half, you know?

02:42Like, we've been together for seven years, and he was all gung-ho about it.

02:46I felt like I was going to have 110% support from him, and, um, that was something I did not get.

02:53And it hurt so bad, so bad on me.

02:56Um, my mom was there more than he was.

02:58You expect someone to be there for you in the worst of time of your life, and they're not there, that's a bad deal.

03:06Dad, I'm, I can't act like everything's okay.

03:09I'm, I'm tired.

03:12Going into No Prep King Season 6, Lizzie wasn't even sure if she was going to be at a race, you know?

03:16And that's what I had on my mind.

03:17I was thinking, you know, I'm finna have to step up, I'm finna have to take care of everything, uh, take care of her.

03:23My thoughts were, with her mama being there, it was my time I could get the car ready.

03:27For me to be the man in the house and the breadwinner, my car has to be ready, because that's how I make a living.

03:32And, uh, like I said, I just thought with her mama being there, it was fine for me to go try to get what pays our bills ready to race.

03:38It just wasn't enough for her.

04:00We have eight drivers that are in the Grade 8.

04:04We are here at Beach Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

04:08This is one of our favorite tracks to come to, and guess what?

04:11We've been making this trip since Season 1.

04:12The grass is always green, and the fans are always enthusiastic.

04:17As always, the first event for the weekend is our Grade 8 competition.

04:21Here's how it works.

04:22If you win the Grade 8, you get 10 points.

04:24Plus, you also get $10,000.

04:26If you runner-up, you get seven.

04:28And if you make it to the semifinals, you will get three.

04:31Those points go towards an individual championship that will be worth $100,000 at the end of the season.

04:36Here is where the rankings stand right now.

04:40Ryan Martin and David Gates tied for first.

04:43But, unfortunately, neither one of them qualified for the Grade 8 this week, so I'll have to watch the others catch up.

04:49Kai Kelly and Giuseppe, who are tied for second, who did qualify for this race, now have a chance to catch up.

04:55And then, Kayla Axeman and Jim Howe are also looking to move up, while Lizzie and Scott Taylor are hoping to make it into the leaderboard for the first time.

05:04And then, all eyes are on rookie racer Damon Merchant, who went all the way to the finals last week and wants to do it again tonight.

05:11Where are my number ones?

06:51So, I'm feeling pretty confident about going in with Scott Taylor here.

07:34Went over there and stood by Damon Merchant instead of me.

07:41You know, it's not going to get in my head because I'm here for one reason.

08:04And this first race is a good one.

08:07Kayla and Jim have both been doing well.

08:09But unfortunately, Jim crashed last week.

08:12So, today, he's driving his teammate, John Odom's car.

08:16At No Prep Kings, you can run a different car as long as you compete in it for the entire event.

08:22Once you've made a pass in a car, you're in that car for the whole weekend.

08:25Daddy, look at these pretty new shocks.

08:33These things just get really tired when you win a lot.

08:39And we've been doing so good.

08:42But it was just time to freshen everything up.

08:46When your motor starts talking to you like that, you just better take some initiative and start making some, doing some changing.

08:52So, we rebuilt everything yesterday in the motor, brand new rods, pistons, bearings, all the things.

08:59We're changing the rear end out and then putting these brand new mincers on, which is a big change.

09:06But I think we can handle it.

09:08So, pretty much everything from nose to butt is new here.

09:13And I'm really excited.

09:15Really positive changes.

09:26We scratched our way back into the grade 8 last week, which is super important since Friday night points are separated from Saturday.

10:16You know, we've scuffed the wall, we've spun out, but we've never wrecked it to the extent that we did last weekend.

10:27When we test, John doesn't get to come and test.

10:31So, when we test, we test both cars.

10:33We have an ability that we have two cars on our team.

10:36And, now, what would have been interesting is if we'd have been on different teams.

10:43But it worked out great because we're on the same team.

10:46You know, we're doing this as a team.

11:20And, I've been waiting on my chance to get my get back.

11:38We are kicking off our first round of the grade A here in Kentucky as Kayla Morton goes up against Jim Howe.

11:43Either one of them can move into first place, but they have to win this race first.

11:59And Kayla Morton will take that win.

12:02Jim Howe rolls past the starting line, auto red.

12:04I think he rolled through the staging beam.

12:10His lights were on and off.

12:13So, I'm guessing he just rolled in a little too deep and turned them off.

12:18And, that automatically gives me the win.

12:20But, it definitely makes it a little confusing up there.

12:25So, it did hang me out on the break for a little while.

12:28But, yeah.

12:29We got the W and on to round two.

12:31And, forget about that one.

12:34That felt good.

12:38But, for this occasion, I think it's necessary.

15:46We're going in the first round, and we got a hold to a bear.

15:48So we're going to try to make a good, clean pass, and hopefully,

15:50we're faster than him.

16:07So I ended up having to go purchase a blower from a competitor,

16:11and that ain't doing what it's supposed to do.

16:19which is the power adder that he uses.

16:22In his case, it's a pro charger, which compresses the air

16:25and forces it into the motor to make more power.

16:29He's got a replacement, but he's running out of time

16:34Technically, Kai can do his burnout,

16:35which will put Damon on a two-minute clock.

16:38If Damon doesn't make it up there before the two minutes is up,

16:40then he'd be out.

16:42But it's up to Kai if he wants to give him some time, he can do that.

27:57feel myself making up from the ground, but it just wasn't enough.

39:55and I went up on the throttle,

39:57it gained enough pressure to hold the car.

39:58So actually, everything worked,

39:59and we got some data on that pass,

40:00but still we're going to change the transmission out.

40:04Now we have to figure out what exactly happened.
