00:12U.S. District Judge Paul Friedman ruled,

00:14DJI will stay on the Department of Defense's list of Chinese military companies.

00:19The Department of Defense first added DJI in 2022,

00:23arguing the company's tech contributes to China's defense industrial base.

00:27It's a designation that's as bad for business as it sounds.

00:31DJI insists it's a civilian outfit making camera-toting quadcopters for hobbyists and filmmakers,

00:36not stealth bombers for Beijing.

00:39Friedman cited substantial evidence that DJI drones have

00:43both substantial theoretical and actual military application,

00:47including in Ukraine despite policies banning military use.

00:51Friedman didn't buy all of the Pentagon's arguments,

00:54tossing some other justifications for the listing.

00:57But the blacklist still chills investors in government contracts,

01:00and DJI alleges ongoing financial and reputational harm, including lost business.

01:06DJI has long drawn scrutiny in Washington.

01:09Commerce and Treasury had already flagged the company before the Pentagon piled on.

01:13A U.S. sales ban could kick in as soon as December,

01:16unless national security officials decide DJI drones don't pose an unacceptable risk.

01:22DJI told Reuters it's mulling legal options,

01:25arguing Friedman's decision rested on a single rationale

01:28that applies to many companies that have never been listed,

01:32and says it's being unfairly singled out.

01:34For now, America's top-selling drone brand remains grounded by geopolitics,
