00:09was abruptly fired after he refused a request from the Donald Trump administration
00:13to gift one of former President Dwight D. Eisenhower's original swords to King Charles III.
00:20The New York Times reported that the director was forced out of his job
00:24after the Eisenhower Library refused to release a sword or any other original artifact in its collection.
00:30On the grounds that they are the property of the U.S. government,
00:33which the library is obligated by law to preserve for the American public.
00:37Prior to President Donald Trump's visit to the United Kingdom,
00:40the Eisenhower Library reportedly received an email from a State Department liaison

01:02It's unclear if this incident led to Arrington's firing.

01:09I never imagined that I would be fired from almost 30 years of government service for this,
01:14Arrington said to the Times.
01:16He was told that he could no longer be trusted with confidential information.
01:18Arrington also reportedly upset officials at the National Archives and Records Administration
