00:00Trump compares Chicago to Afghanistan.
00:03President Donald Trump sparked backlash recently after comparing Chicago to Afghanistan while
00:08defending ICE operations and attacking Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker.
00:14During a recent press appearance, Trump was asked about ICE's ongoing courthouse arrests
00:18in New York and other states.
00:20He pivoted to Chicago saying, criminals, they're arresting criminals, before declaring that
00:25federal agents might be needed to restore order in Illinois.
00:29We want to save Chicago, he said.
00:32They had 4,000 people murdered over a very short period of time.
00:36You look at Chicago, you look at Mexico City, you look at anywhere in Afghanistan, it's
00:40the same story.
00:42However, city data contradicts his claim.
00:45The Chicago Police Department reported 331 homicides so far in 2025, compared to 460 at
00:52this time last year.
00:54Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker quickly responded to Trump's remarks, calling them an insult
01:00to every law enforcement officer in the state.
01:03He then accused the president of using our service members as political props and pawns
01:08in his illegal effort to militarize our nation's cities.
01:12Trump escalated the feud by calling Pritzker a slob and incompetent, adding that the Democratic
01:17governor was thrown out of his family business like a dog.
01:21The comments came just a day after U.S. District Judge April Perry issued a temporary injunction,
01:27halting Trump's plan to send National Guard troops from Texas and other states into Illinois.
01:33The judge wrote that the president's order likely violates the Tenth Amendment.
01:38Texas Guard members were seen entering an ICE facility near Chicago, hours before the court's
01:43intervention.
01:44ICE has continued its crackdown under Operation Midway Blitz, which has led to more than 1,000
01:50arrests in the Chicago area since September.
01:53Federal officials insist the operation targets undocumented immigrants with criminal records,
01:58while local advocates say the sweeps are overly broad and politically motivated.
