00:00Trump claims Dems messed up big time, made one mistake.
00:05Some may view it as underestimating President Donald Trump's authority,
00:09but the president is saying it is one mistake.
00:12That mistake is on the part of Democrats regarding the ongoing government shutdown.
00:17I think they could just stay out forever.
00:19I mean, to be honest with you, Trump said to Fox News' Maria Bartiromo on Sunday Morning Futures.
00:25Trump stated that Democrats' mistake allows him to cut unwanted Democrat programs permanently,
00:30including giveaways and welfare, because their oversight gave him the leverage.
00:34Bartiromo asked Trump about the upcoming No Kings rallies.
00:38Some speculate the government shutdown is linked to the rally,
00:41implying a delayed tactic around his portrayal as a king.
00:44I'm not a king, Trump responded.
00:47Chuck Schumer uses it as leverage against Trump.
00:50Well, Chuck is, you know, at the end of the line.
00:53He's being beaten by everybody that they poll against him, Trump said.
00:57And you know what he did is he did the right thing a couple of years ago on something like this.
01:02And he got hurt by his party.
01:04We're cutting a $20 billion project Schumer fought for 15 years to get,
01:09and I'm cutting the project, Trump continued.
01:12That project is the gateway project for a new train tunnel under the Hudson River,
01:16connecting New Jersey and New York.
01:18During the shutdown, Trump froze billions for the tunnel and New York subway extension.
01:23Trump then turned to trade with China.
01:25He wrote on Truth Social about China's aggressive trade stance,
01:29announcing export controls on almost all products starting November 1, 2025.
01:35In response, the U.S. will impose a 100% tariff on China, exceeding current tariffs.
01:41This decision is specific to the U.S. and stems from China's unprecedented measures,
01:46potentially enacted sooner if China's actions change.
01:49The Peterson Institute for International Economics reports the average U.S. tariffs on Chinese exports
01:55is now 57.6%, rising to approximately 157%.
02:02Bartiromo asked Trump if that rate could last.
02:05It's not sustainable, but that's what the number is.
02:08It's probably not, you know, it could stand.
02:11But they forced me to do that, Trump said.
02:15We'll see what happens with China.
02:17I've always had a great relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping, as you know.
02:21But they are always looking for an edge, Trump continued.
02:24Trump noted that he will meet President Xi in South Korea in a couple of weeks.
