Is Halloween just a money maker?

With the growth of Halloween and it seemingly getting earlier and earlier, we’re asking people in Cardiff if they think it’s just a money maker, or is it a holiday worth celebrating?

00:00it's been creeping up and up for years more families kids and people of all ages are getting

00:06involved and shops are clearly catching on to the craze spooky season is upon us once again so we're

00:12talking about halloween the once traditional all hallows eve turned american holiday turned british

00:17staple 10 years ago people might have thought you were a bit weird for putting up halloween

00:22decorations but nowadays they're commonplace skeletons witches and pumpkins are everywhere

00:27but i want to know if people think it's worth all the hype or if it's just a big corporate money

00:32maker both both i'm uh of course i'm i'm new 60 um next year so kind of growing out of it so i think

00:43it gets a bit to behavior there's a lot of overactive behavior going on in the streets in the houses

00:51they need that that needs to stop commercialized more now isn't it and you know halloween stuff has

00:56been in the stores and the shops for months already that's like i think it's crazy so and it did come

01:04from america didn't it so yeah not a fan well when i was younger they used to have the apples in the

01:11bubble you know ducking for the apples and and now a lot of them they go around dressed up and

01:18around the streets and you know it's both it's a lot of fun for kids but as you say it's expanded it

01:26used to be one day guy fawkes was one day really you'd go collecting petty for the guy and things but

01:32only like a week before i think it does like everything it gets commercially exploited i think

01:39halloween has been commercially exploited as you say the time period's expanded and there's a lot of money

01:45to be made but you know kids enjoy it and families tend to use it as a get together so yeah people

01:52still do trick-or-treating don't they i mean you can't just do trick-or-treating and do that but

01:55then some people with uh the extra money like it's like a luxury thing by some days there's not everyone

02:01can afford to do that but you can it's something good to do like but sometimes it's not about the

02:05money so i was just spending time with friends and family in general so i guess with a with the

02:09cost of things yeah it is extra if you want to do those things extra but there's nothing wrong with

02:14staying and watching like a spooky films you're only it's just nice to get together no matter

02:18no matter what it is halloween is certainly a unique festival the focus on scary alternative things

02:24isn't usual for the rest of the year people definitely embrace the weird and wacky during spooky season

02:29um there's like those like scared places that you can go to and i think as well like halloween's good

02:35when you live like remotely like in the middle of nowhere because there's there's still like a lot of

02:40stuff to do and like a lot of people like i know going to pumpkin back just like every year so yeah

02:44me and my friends like doing scare mazes like a few weeks before halloween so there's a bit of a

02:49countdown to it and we do a few yeah yeah i think it's not like christmas where it's like the whole

02:56month it's more of like the weekend it's sort of countdown
