00:00Hi, everybody. Okay, last stop before the amazingly talented Ryan Coogler joins us.
00:06I'm Brad Stone, the editor of Bloomberg Businessweek.
00:08I like to think of us as the premium storytelling arm of Bloomberg.
00:13You can get copies of our October issue outside.
00:16It's the screen time issue with a cover story by our very own Lucas Shaw
00:20about the juggernaut that is Mr. Beast.
00:23And it also features our 2025 ones to watch list.
00:28These are the artists, musicians, executives, and others
00:31who are reshaping the business of entertainment and putting their stamp on culture.
00:36And now I'm thrilled to present this year's ones to watch.
00:40Hannah Berner and Paige DeSorbo are co-hosts of the Giggly Squad podcast
00:45where they talk about, well, pretty much anything.
00:48Driving tests, traveling, pasta.
00:51In the male-dominated comedy podcasting space,
00:54they're giving 30-something women a place to hang out and laugh.
00:56Here's a bit of trivia.
00:58Who was the second pick behind Caitlin Clark in the 2024 draft?
01:03If you said Cameron Brink, you're right.
01:05And after recovering from an injury,
01:07she's finally getting her chance to shine on the court and off.
01:11Her 1.4 million followers on Instagram
01:13have gotten her brand deals with New Balance, among many, many others.
01:18Rafa Esparza is an artist whose career started with performances
01:22that explored his connection to history, colonialism, and community
01:25as a queer man of Mexican descent.
01:28Today, his paintings and sculptures are in prestigious collections around the world,
01:32and next year he'll be in shows in Mexico City and Buffalo.
01:35One of the few creators making scripted series for YouTube,
01:40Kanigra Dion, is among the most successful.
01:43She posts three videos a week, all installments of series like Vampire Siblings,
01:47and the messy group chat.
01:49I've gotten to know her a little bit this week at screen time,
01:53so I'm not at all surprised.
01:54Her videos have over 2 billion views, and you should check them out.
01:59Lucy Guo is the founder and CEO of Passes,
02:01which helps social media influencers diversify their income streams
02:04by earning money directly from fans who pay for exclusive photos and direct messages.
02:10Since 2022, when Passes started operating,
02:13it's raised $50 million from investors
02:14and attracted creators with massive TikTok followings.
02:18And Lucy will join me soon.
02:20And perhaps you've heard of a movie called K-pop Demon Hunters.
02:24It's now Netflix's most watched film ever,
02:27and Maggie Kang was the creative force behind it.
02:30She spent seven years making sure the K-pop anime mashup was authentically Korean,
02:35and now she'll have to figure out how to replicate that success in the inevitable sequel.
02:41Justin P. Chet Rung-C transformed his parents' restaurant,
02:45Anna Jack Tai and Sherman Oaks, into one of the hottest tables in L.A.
02:49And yesterday night, if you were here, he was making tacos outside.
02:54They were fantastic.
02:55He has many Best Chef awards, including from the James Beard Foundation.
03:00But his top accomplishment may be introducing to us the concept of Thai Taco Tuesdays.
03:06And Brian Rolap's two decades at the NFL,
03:09he was a key figure in getting annual revenue to more than $23 billion.
03:12Now he's the CEO of the PGA Tour,
03:15and he joins in a delicate moment for golf,
03:18with the tour having to figure out life after Tiger Woods,
03:21and the Saudi-backed circuit that's lured away from some of the game's biggest names.
03:26Mikey Shulman is the CEO and co-founder of Suno,
03:30which is making it easier to produce music.
03:32All you need is a prompt, say,
03:34yacht rock-inspired song to play at a backyard barbecue,
03:38and there's your track.
03:39Shulman says Suno, which has raised over $125 million,
03:42is democratizing music creation.
03:45We will see.
03:46While Courtney's store isn't in the bear,
03:49the producer and chef is the key to the dramedy's verite sensibility,
03:54teaching the show's actors how to cook.
03:56She did so in a space that she also uses for her catering company,
03:59and that doubled as a kitchen during the L.A. fires,
04:02where she helped make about 700 meals a day.
04:05Her first cookbook is due in 2027.
04:08As a pharmacy student in China with no formal film training,
04:12Yu Yang made animated shorts on a computer in his bedroom.
04:16In 2019, his movie about a rebellious boy, Neza,
04:19recruited to fight demons, took in $700 million.
04:23The sequel has earned over $2 billion,
04:26making it the first non-Hollywood title
04:28to crack the global all-time box office list.
04:32If you've heard of one of Lola Young's indie pop songs,
04:35it would be messy.
04:36I watched the video today.
04:38It went viral on TikTok and top charts everywhere.
04:40Late last month, she released her second studio album,
04:43and Elton John called one of the tracks
04:45one of the biggest smash hits I've heard in years.
04:49So let's congratulate Canegra, Justin, and Courtney,
04:52who are all here today.
