00:00Talk to us first about this idea that I could fly, say, to Atlanta through Detroit and pay more than I would for just a flight to Atlanta. Why is that?
00:17It has to do with how airlines price tickets. You would think it's by distance, like the further you travel, the more fuel you're using.
00:27But no, it's based on market. Airlines price by the market, so depending on which market you buy, it could actually be a different price.
00:37They often charge more for direct flights compared to longer flights, so you have this opportunity called Hidden City.
00:47Travelers have been feeling crunch. They've been feeling crunch for years, but obviously everyone wanted to go back and fly.
00:53But right now, obviously, that extra mile is painful when it comes to the pocketbook.
00:59How much are you seeing adoption on the site right now?
01:03Quite a bit. Usually when there's tough economic times, we see more usage.
01:10And that makes sense because we help consumers save a lot of money.
01:15On average, 50% on their ticket, which is about $180.
01:19So why do airlines care so much? Like, if I book a Detroit-Atlanta flight and just stay in Detroit and skip the second leg of the tour, why do they care? Why bother?
01:33They care because here is a very clear case of consumers winning.
01:39Skip lag is very pro-consumer, and that makes consumers love us.
01:43But it's the same reason why airlines hate us. It's just people are saving money.
01:48You know, we are very in tune to the infrastructure issues when it comes to airports outside of New York City, what's happening with Newark.
01:55And Ali's from New Jersey.
01:56Oh, my God. I mean, just flying back Monday, right, whether it is staffing or whether it is weather, it is a nightmare to fly, let's be honest.
02:05And so if you're dealing with all these changes among airports when it comes to staffing levels, it's actually kind of difficult for skip lag a little bit in some ways because flights have been changing so drastically within a matter of an hour, frankly.
02:20Well, you would think so, but, like, we've been in the business for over a decade.
02:25The success rate of skip lagging, which is just, like, missing flights to save money, is over 99.7%.
02:33So, like, it's a very valuable thing for consumers even these days.
02:39What are the best deals that you can get?
02:42You know, if I want to get to San Francisco, should I book a flight to Tokyo?
02:49If I want to get to London, should I book a flight to Berlin?
02:52Like, what are the best deals that you see?
02:54So, whatever is the best changes every few minutes.
02:58And your way of figuring out what's best is to just go on our site and search like you would anywhere else.
03:03But what are the biggest wins that you've found recently?
03:05Or do you have someone coming up to you saying, man, I just booked a flight to Miami and I really only wanted to get to Savannah and I saved, you know, 300 bucks?
03:15Yeah, we have seen crazy savings, thousands of dollars with families booking for, like, five-plus people.
03:22So, it really, like, it shines for last-minute tickets because that's where airlines are trying to charge consumers the most.
03:33Okay, so we're in the middle of May.
03:35People are probably looking to June, July, maybe August.
03:38What is your advice to people who are looking into the summer travel season?
03:41To shop around.
03:45Like, knowing your options, like, it's such a fragmented industry that, like, no one platform will get you the best price.
03:52But I would, of course, recommend checking out our website because we are trying to be as transparent as possible and giving you the options.
04:01Like, we want you to get from A to B as much as you do.
