00:00President Trump curating a list of top trade demands for China.
00:04One of the things I want is China's going to buy soybeans.
00:07I want China to stop with the fentanyl.
00:10Very, you know, normal things.
00:12I don't want them to play the rare earth game with us.
00:16This, as Treasury Secretary Scott Messon says,
00:18the U.S. and China will hold talks later this week.
00:21For more, Bloomberg's Brendan Murray joins us now.
00:23Brendan, we knew these were the top three issues.
00:25What progress can be made if the U.S. doesn't give China something in return?
00:31Yeah, exactly.
00:32This is going to be a really consequential week
00:34with the talks between Secretary Messon and his Chinese counterpart.
00:39The relations between the two world's largest economies
00:42got pretty sour the past week or so
00:45with Secretary Messon calling his counterpart a trade negotiator
00:50on the Chinese side unhinged and rogue.
00:53So it's going to take a lot for the two sides to look across the table from each other
00:58and see trust and an ability to work constructively.
01:03But that will set the stage for, as Alan was discussing,
01:07the summit between President Xi and President Trump at the APEC meeting.
01:12Now, whether they can actually come away with any sort of grand deal,
01:15I think a lot of people would have their doubts about that.
01:18But the things that President Trump mentioned,
01:20the soybeans, the fentanyl, and the rare earths
01:22are just kind of the stuff that's been on the table all along.
01:26And if China can give a little bit in that department,
01:29maybe Trump will ease off of the 100% tariff threat that he's put on China.
