00:00It has been nearly three months since Sean Diddy Combs was convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
00:08Now, because he was acquitted of the more serious racketeering charge, many legal experts predicted a light sentence, possibly no prison time at all.
00:17But now prosecutors are pushing for a much tougher punishment ahead of his Friday sentencing.
00:23According to CBS News, prosecutors are asking the judge to sentence Combs to 11 years behind bars.
00:34In a pre-sentencing submission, they wrote his crimes of conviction are serious and have warranted sentences over 10 years in multiple cases for defendants who, like Sean Combs, engaged in violence and put others in fear.
00:47This latest push follows a July filing when prosecutors said they expected a sentence, quote, substantially higher than the four to five years initially anticipated.
00:57However, Combs's defense team just last week called for a 14-month sentence, arguing the judge should not factor in testimony from former girlfriends since he was acquitted of coercing them into sex.
01:10If granted, that request would credit Combs for time already served, potentially making him eligible for release by year's end.
01:18In addition to the 11 years, prosecutors are also seeking a $500,000 fine.
