00:00The Titans have fired head coach Brian Callahan just six games into his second season.
00:06Callahan won just four of the 23 games he coached for Tennessee.
00:12That includes a 1-5 start to this season with the number one overall pick in April's draft, Cam Ward, as the team's starting quarterback.
00:21One week after posting a come-from-behind win over Arizona to snap a 10-game losing streak,
00:26the Titans fell flat against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
00:30Losing 20-10.
00:32Ward threw for 222 yards and one touchdown in the loss.
00:36It was the Titans' fourth loss by at least 10 points this season, the most by any team.
00:42Callahan was asked whether he was more frustrated or angry at the outcome.
00:47Certainly frustrated that we can't find a way to make the plays more consistently to win the football game.
00:52And that part is very frustrating.
00:54And I'm frustrated versus mad.
00:56I think I have moments of all of those things.
00:59But we should be mad.
01:01We should be frustrated because this is where we're at.
01:03And the expectation is we've got to find a way to get better.
01:06And we were hoping to be better than we are so far through the first six games.
01:09Callahan was hired after a four-year stint as the Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator,
01:14where he had some of the best statistics in the league with quarterback Joe Burrow.
01:19The Titans' offense, however, could not get on track.
01:21They have scored only 83 points through the first six games, the franchise's fewest since 1985, according to ESPN.
01:30Titans president of football operations Chad Brinker explained the move in a statement on Monday.
01:36While we're committed to a patient and strategic plan to build a sustainable winning football program,
01:42we have not demonstrated sufficient growth.
01:45Our players, fans, and community deserve a football team that achieves a standard we're not currently meeting.
01:52And we are committed to making the hard decisions necessary to reach and maintain that standard.
01:57Senior offensive assistant Mike McCoy will take over as interim coach.
02:00He was the head coach of the San Diego Chargers from 2013 to 2016.
02:05In a scheduling twist this Sunday, former Titans head coach Mike Vrabel visits with his 4-2 New England Patriots.
02:13Vrabel was fired after six seasons and two AFC South Division titles to make way for Callahan.
02:20For Straight Arrow News, I'm Chris Francis.
