00:00Malcolm Brogdon made a shocking decision to retire from basketball just a week before the

00:06season opener. He had been slated to make the final roster despite being on a non-guaranteed

00:11deal. But the veteran point guard, from my understanding, it kind of dawned on him during

00:17camp that his hunger wasn't in it. And the physical toll of being in the NBA, nine seasons,

00:23he's in his 30s. It just took a toll. And he decided to retire this year. And what it does

00:30for the Knicks is it leaves a hole of the backup point guard. Currently, Tyler Kolick is the only

00:35natural backup. And he's shown that he may not be quite ready for a rotation role. And Miles McBride

00:45is certainly capable of bringing up the ball, but he's more of a two guard in a point guard's body.

00:51So, you know, it leaves some more questions about the Knicks roster composition and how they're

00:57going to compensate. But what it does is it does clear up a little bit of a logjam with that final

01:03roster spot before the Knicks were, you know, had to make a trade to keep both Brogdon and Landry

01:10Schammett or Garrison Matthews. Now they don't have to keep it. Now they don't have to make a trade if

01:15they want to keep one of them like Landry Schammett, for instance, or whether it's Landry Schammett or

01:20Garrison Matthews. But we'll see what they're going to do with that backup point guard spot

01:24because that was a priority heading into the offseason to take care of somebody to fill

01:29that role. And Malcolm Brogdon was that guy until today.
