00:00Running back Braylon Allen sustained an MCL sprain during that loss in Miami.
00:05He's a big physical type running back.
00:07What's his timeline to be back to 100%?
00:11And will this injury kind of slow him down when he does get back?
00:16I think it all depends on how bad the MCL injury is.
00:19And when we as orthopedic surgeons classify MCL sprains,
00:22we grade them into three different types.
00:24So a type 1 tear is a very small tear or just a sprain
00:28where the tissue might stretch out a little bit,
00:30maybe a little bit of fluid around the ligament.
00:32And that could be as easy and as quick as two to four weeks to come back from.
00:36Typically, the patient or the player just needs to feel comfortable
00:38and be able to do all their activities on the field
00:40without jeopardizing their health or the health of anybody else on the field that they're playing with.
00:44When it comes to a type 2 tear, which is a little bit more of a tear inside the ligament,
00:48then it could be anywhere from four to six weeks.
00:51And when we talk about a type 3 tear, which is almost like a complete blowout
00:54or a complete tear of the ligament with significant instability
00:57when we test them on the examination table,
01:01that could be almost three months to recover from.
01:04So those injuries are typically about a three-month recovery time.
01:07But, you know, I haven't heard too much about this injury,
01:10so my gut tells me it's probably going to be along those low-grade highlights,
01:14or a one or a two, and hopefully they'll be back on the field within two to four weeks.
01:17So, let's take a look at this.
