00:00Aaron how were you able to keep that ball fair there in that fourth inning and did you know

00:09off the bat that it was didn't stay fair uh but like I made good contact and you know I thought

00:15we had a chance you just never know with with the wind if it's going to push a foul does it

00:20keep curving or not but um I guess a couple ghosts out there in Martin and Park I'll kind

00:25of keep that there Tim Hill just said in the clubhouse he can't even wrap his head around

00:30how you were able to hit that and and that moment saying the energy just kind of went through his

00:35entire body when the stadium erupted how would you describe the feeling you got when you saw

00:40that that was staying fair and you tied things up here and this would our go-home situation

00:44the boys boys are hyped up locked in all game you know I know we're kind of down there early but

00:51uh the energy in the dugout and what we were bringing was you know we knew we were going to

00:57go out there and just leave it all on the field so uh getting a chance we knew we were going to try

01:02to come back there and get a chance to tie it up like that um I liked our chances going into it

01:07especially with our bullpen our guys down there and you know where our offense has kind of been

01:11rolling so stay out there of course Aaron how gratifying was it for you to have this kind of

01:18monstrous performance in an elimination game in your home ballpark

01:21it's uh it's great just trying to just do my job by what I've been trying to do all year

01:30I try to do too much guys on base drive them in if no one's on base trying to get a rally going and

01:35um that's all you can do especially in front of our fans or every kind of wrestlers there a little

01:41bit down 6-1 but uh um they erupted with me if he tied it up and took the lead

01:46staying under right here Barry

01:49they're in the budget chain who already to have a bar with the dope like you were kind of

01:55insulting the stand in the dugout for it if that as well as that competition like

01:59uh big g saw him in toronto so I just kind of asked and I haven't seen

02:04uh louis since he was with the twins and he was a starter so um that's kind of one to brush up

02:11I've seen all the videos and all his appearances uh but it's a different perspective when you step

02:16in the box and kind of see it see it live so I was just kind of talking to him about what certain

02:20pitches look like what it felt like um and you know any info you can get like that you know just

02:27kind of helps you sharpen your your game plan a little bit and kind of gets you locked in a little

02:32bit better so you're right here kelly and according to sarah lang's that's the first time

02:38because there's 1.2 feet inside 99 plus miles per hour which is for home run what did you like

02:45about that pitch why why did you slow the pitch uh I don't know I get yelled after swinging at him

02:52out of the zone but now I'm getting praise for it I don't know it's just um it's it's a game you

03:00got to go out there and play I don't care what the numbers say or where something was at or

03:03I'm just up there trying to put a good swing on a on a good pitch and um look good to me

03:10still there julie no good right there yeah what's in about uh

03:15sort of a team seems to go as you go do you think that you boil that down to

03:22well heading in the middle of the order you know if you're getting out all the time it kind of

03:27puts a fucking thing so if I'm getting on base kind of making things move then

03:32it's hitting is contagious that's all this game is momentum is contagious hitting is contagious so

03:37if I'm in the middle of the order I gotta find a way to get on base and get that next guy up there

03:41and just kind of keep things rolling so you know if I'm up there getting out you know kind of

03:46puts a rutting thing so uh like I said just

03:50no one's on base try to get on base people are out there try to drive him in just keep it similar

03:55Aaron can you just explain mechanically what it takes to get to a pitch like that and the work

04:02that goes into that behind scenes

04:03would be here all night here all night but just uh yeah I know Marlon's got a great fastball he'll

04:12run up to 101 102 and you know good feel for his off-speed pitches too so that's really just about

04:19I really don't know you know you're just in the moment just trust your eyes trust your swing

04:24I feel I can get to every every pitch in the zone so um I think the biggest thing is just being ready

04:31on time you know I think it's all timing that's what a lot of hitting comes down to is if you're

04:34not ready to swing and ready early then you're not gonna hit anything so I was just after he blew

04:41my doors off on the pitch before I said hey just get ready and I'll see a good pitch and drive it

04:45Jake to the third row you're right Aaron about I know it's still pretty fresh but when you think

04:50about a moment like that what is the image that sticks in your head is it the ball hitting the

04:56pole is it looking at your teammates is it rounding third is it going back through the dugout like

05:01as you sit here now and you think about that what sticks with you I think my teammates you know

05:08balls in the air it's kind of silent uh you're just kind of a lot of unknown but then you know

05:12when it hits the pole I'm looking straight to my teammates and all the guys have been battling with

05:16me all year long and you know battling for this moment you kind of get back in the game so you know

05:20they were out there grinding all game long giving their all so that's kind of the first first people

05:27I looked to and seeing their excitement was was pretty special you know especially a guy like

05:31Carlos Rodon he was top step there I mean he's a guy that's picked us up all year long and I know he

05:35went out there and probably didn't have his best game but I told him earlier you know when he came

05:39out that Abram and pick you up I'm worried about he's been picking us up all year so I think we could

05:43do that Chelsea's standing on the right here I know you said it kind of just looked good to you but

05:50I'm curious how did the count affect the swing you've got off on a pitch like is that a pitch you

05:55take the same swing on one one or if you're heading the count as you want when you're down

05:58he's got all leverage you know I saw in a slider fouled it off and then we'll meet with the heater

06:06you know he's kind of got all leverage so he's probably in attack mode is what I'm thinking so

06:09you got to attack the head on you know you can't be passive or try to

06:15be scared in the box you just got to trust your plan trust your guts and

06:20I kind of see what happened that he's a great pitcher he's been a great pitcher

06:24uh in his career so far he's a guy that I wish I could throw at 102 miles an hour it's pretty

06:30impressive so um I'm just trying to go up there and do my job and do that uh Ian standing up your

06:36right I realize you set the American League record but was tonight's the biggest home run of your

06:41life and if so why and if not why not

06:43probably my biggest home run was my first one no in the big leagues I guess that he

06:53finally make it to the show you don't know if you're good enough or not so

06:56you know no matter what happened after that day I guess they hit a homer in the big leagues but um

07:01uh tonight tonight was special but there's still more work to be done you know we have some more

07:06cool moments like this uh the rest of the postseason you know we got another big game tomorrow night

07:10maybe we do something special tomorrow night and we talk to all y'all one more time before we

07:15head back up north but um

07:17yeah I think the first one was us the two last ones Stephanie and you're right

07:24and you said that uh while you're waiting for the ball to hit the pole it it was silent that wasn't

07:31my experience of the stadium uh when did the noise turn back down for you and is that always

07:36how you experience those moments it turned it turned back on probably when I was getting close

07:42to third or getting close to home you know you just got so much adrenaline pumping and you're so

07:46locked in on the moment and you really it's you really don't hear anything it's it's the noise

07:51is probably so loud it's deafening but um like I said I was locked in on my teammates locked in on

07:57the ball you're kind of floating around the bases and before you know you're back back in the dugout

08:02and the moment's over and it's time to cheer on the next guy so um yeah it's it's pretty cool in the

08:08moment but um and it's all worth you got another job to do finish up with down on the second row on your

08:15right

08:16Aaron you also made uh two really good running catches could you in particular talk about the

08:26fifth uh the fifth inning catch you make the diving catch yeah it's a tough one slicing in um

08:32I know there's a guy on base there but just in my head I'm just praying it stays up long enough I

08:39know it's going to top spin on me a little bit but I know I just got to get dirty for it and

08:44and lay it all out there it's uh just in those moments you can't be afraid you got to be on

08:48offense even though you're on defense you got to attack the ball at all times and um just trying to

08:53make a play for my pitcher that was about it could you take us uh in the lock in the uh in the dugout

08:58when Jazz had to go head home oh we were excited you know we could feel the momentum switch a little

09:02bit you know they've been uh it's a great ball call over there they've been rolling all series and

09:06uh they get up there and tie it back up you know we felt like we

09:10you know we had a ball in our quarter at that time and you know Jazz he was having good at bats

09:15all game and I talked to him I know he I don't think he had a hit yet but I was just talking to

09:19him hey man you're having great at bats stay right there stay aggressive you're gonna you got two more

09:23big loins and you know once he sends out one in the seats I was like all right let's try to add on

09:28because we know at any moment those guys they can you know put a four spot on you at any moment so

09:32just happy with how the offense responded and pitching staff responded and so good to see another
