00:00Trail Blazers head coach and Basketball Hall of Famer Chauncey Billups as well as Miami Heat Guard Terry Rozier have been arrested in connection with an FBI sports betting probe.
00:11So FBI Director Cash Patel in the Eastern District of New York will hold a press conference Thursday morning to further discuss the case and numerous arrests in illegal sports betting and poker game schemes, including two indictments.
00:24But here's what we know so far and we'll start with Rozier.
00:28So NBA spokesman Mike Bass said earlier this year that the league was alerted to unusual betting activity related to Rozier's performance in the game between Charlotte and New Orleans back in March of 2023.
00:41Rozier left the game after playing the first nine minutes and 36 seconds and did not return due to a foot issue.
00:48He tallied five points, four boards, two assists, and one steal in that time, but one ex-user posted at the time how they allegedly had been tipped off that Rozier would exit the game early.
01:01That inside information affects prop betting where gamblers are allowed to bet on a player's statistics for a certain game.
01:07The league conducted an investigation at the time and did not find in a violation of NBA rules at that time.
01:14He didn't play in Miami's season opening loss to the Magic on Wednesday despite being available, but he was arrested at a hotel in Orlando on Thursday morning.
01:24As for Billups, ABC reported Thursday morning that his arrest was non-basketball related and it was for his involvement in an illegal poker operation tied to the mafia.
01:35Now this is some alarming news to wake up to with the NBA season just getting underway.
01:41And as I said to you guys earlier, FBI Director Cash Patel in the Eastern District of New York are going to hold a press conference Thursday morning to discuss the arrest and the poker game schemes in detail.
