00:00in this new sports scandal that has broken the past hours surrounding individuals allegedly
00:06betting on sports on their own player props not the first time this has happened but a bigger
00:12name involved we'll get to that also break down the latest in the nfl of course huge games this
00:17weekend in both college and pro we'll break it down for you also gilbert mcgregor joins us
00:21courtesy of sporting news i'm sure he'll weigh in on the story that we're about to discuss and also
00:25breaks down the latest in the nba brady cannon also on the contest coming up this weekend in
00:29the nfl some college football as well that and a whole lot more on this edition of the show which
00:34is going to be i think very compelling for all of you so without further ado let's get to it
00:37so the fbi this morning made several arrests and they involve players in the national basketball
00:46association and they also involve a hall of fame basketball player as well so sort of incredible
00:54to unpack this we'll try terry rosier who's currently a member of the miami heat has been
00:59arrested allegedly had over two hundred thousand dollars delivered to his home because he alerted folks
01:07that he was going to leave a game early and you could bet on the under prop of his and uh i suppose
01:17the fbi found people who indeed did this and delivered two hundred thousand dollars to winnings
01:23on his under and that is what the indictment alleges of course this is illegal and also
01:30provides inside information in the sports betting world which is also illegal terry rosier arrested in
01:38this sports betting probe that's not the only arrest that was made today chauncey billups who was the head
01:44coach of the portland trailblazers has also been charged in an illegal poker operation tied to what they're
01:52saying has to do with mafia ties these poker games allegedly operated illegally and were also rigged
02:01according to the fbi so the general public who were participating could not win these are two
02:08separate cases but both involving nba figures won a player won a current head coach of the portland
02:16trailblazers cash patel of the fbi had a statement this morning on the arrests but as you now know
02:25individuals such as chauncey billups damon jones and terry rosier were taken into custody today
02:31former current nba players and coaches what you don't know is that this is an illegal gambling
02:38operation and sports rigging operation that spanned the course of years the fbi led a coordinated
02:44take down across 11 states to arrest over 30 individuals today responsible for this case which
02:50is very much ongoing to be clear we're announcing today indictments in two major cases both involving
02:58fraud one involves sports betting and the other involves illegal gambling very specifically rigged poker
03:06games the first indictment involves six defendants who are alleged to have participated one of the most
03:13brazen sports corruption schemes since online sports betting became widely legalized in the united
03:20states this scheme is an insider sports betting conspiracy that exploited confidential information
03:27about national basketball association athletes and teams the second indictment involves 31 defendants
03:38alleged to have participated in a nationwide scheme to rig illegal poker games these defendants which
03:46include former professional athletes use high-tech cheating technology to steal millions of dollars from
03:53victims in underground poker games that were secretly fixed wow big news of course from the fbi a story
04:02that will follow i'm sure today tomorrow throughout the week stick keep it locked right here to sports
04:06grid for the latest all right other sports stories involving sports betting on the lighter side state of missouri
04:12getting ready to open up sports betting on december the first they handed out some temporary licenses
04:18yesterday to some operators including bet mgm bet365 caesars fanatics fanduel pen entertainment temporary
04:26licenses make preparations needed before launching on the first so this helps them get ahead of the big
04:32day coming up soon national hockey league also making news yesterday they're the first professional
04:37sports league to partner up in the prediction market space wednesday the nhl announced a multi-year
04:41partnership with polymarket and calci the operation again runs throughout the world and the prediction
04:49markets say that they're not sports betting and so thus far with the regulation the nhl lies to take their
04:54money and partner up fanduel and draft kings meanwhile are paying up they paid illinois nearly four million
05:00dollars in additional tax revenue in august due to the state's per wager fee that's even before they
05:04began paying the 50 cent uh rate it was a quarter before that and so uh good news for the state of
05:10illinois bad news for those of you bet on sports with those little taxes added to it okay now let's get
05:15to some games tonight shall we minnesota vikings los angeles chargers 8 15 eastern tonight chargers three
05:20and a half point favorites in los angeles at home vikings have decided to run it back with carson
05:25wentz at least one more time total 44 and a half in this again the challenge will be for the vikings to
05:31do enough on defense to stop the chargers and justin herbert knows that he'll have to be having his head
05:36on a swivel with that vikings d tonight uh yeah uh you know we haven't been able to you know have a ton
05:42of time watching so far but uh they do a really good good job getting after the the quarterback um they're
05:48going to be bringing a lot of pressure and um they've got a really good front seven really good
05:51cover guys and um some really good linebackers too they're really well coached and um you know i think
05:56we played against them a couple years ago and a very tough opponent um so we have to be on our stuff
06:00quick week this week mindset is to go win this game at the end of the day i'm focused on it here now um
06:07don't have a lot of time or energy to think about beyond this one quite frankly so um let the future
06:13take care of itself um but mindset is to go want to know this week and find a way to get mentally
06:18and physically as ready as i can in a short week practice reports from yesterday indicate lamar
06:24jackson still tbd for the weekend but it would appear based on the point spread that jackson is
06:30expected to play this week for the ravens marcus mariota by the way will start for the washington
06:36commander sean payton meanwhile yesterday apologized saying that he didn't mean to offend russell
06:41wilson wilson who clapped back with payton's comments saying that they should have turned
06:45the quarterback position over to jackson dart a little earlier i did look in the euphoria the way
06:53that game unfolded um that was strictly about dart i mean um and i that was in no way shape or form
07:04anything that was um directed at russ so um and i might be able to see how he might perceive that but
07:14uh coming off that win and watching how he played um yeah that um that wasn't any intention at all
07:26too late for that sean sorry justin fields meanwhile looks like he'll be the signal caller again for the
07:30jets because tyrod taylor is now banged up you may remember the owner woody johnson said the
07:35other day it would be great if they could complete a pass in an nfl game justin field says he's not
07:40taking that personally it doesn't bother me um it doesn't um you know of course everybody knows you
07:47know i need to i need to play better we need to play better as a team um and of course you know no
07:52matter how you know the offense does as a unit you know i'm gonna get the blame and i understand that
07:57that's just what comes with the job but um honestly um it's what comes with it so you can't let anything
08:04um kind of affect your mind my mind and um that's that's is what it is no matter if it's you know him
08:10no matter if it's you know family members even teammates sometimes you're gonna be there's gonna
08:14be times where you have to be the only one who believes in yourself so um you know like i said
08:19that's his opinion and um like i told you guys after the game on on sunday i'm at peace and uh
08:24my focus is right now is uh working each and every day and and uh getting better so yeah in
08:30the nba last night great night for the san antonio spurs victor wimbayama had 40 points as san
08:35antonio beat dallas last night 125 to 92 cooper flag had 10 points in his debut also the knicks beat
08:41the calves 119 to 111 76ers over the celtics by one and the clippers beat the jazz 129 to 108.

08:57time for it and and let's also be honest here we're learning about a story that just broke about
09:03two hours ago and trying to disseminate it and figure out some of the machinations as they say
09:09of the story which is gilbert uh the ugly part of unfortunately what has happened here is it would
09:16appear that a player once again in sports was involved in manipulating his player prop
09:23and uh it was terry rosier according to the fbi the other story with with chauncey billups we'll
09:28get to but you know certainly completely different animal as i would say here with trying to break
09:32that down but uh let's get to rosier here for a minute gilbert i i think that props are really the
09:40only issue honestly in college and pro and all of these other sports player props you know i don't
09:45ever see these going away and there's going to be a big fight over whether or not they should or should
09:49not exist but unfortunately this one huge bad apple is going to raise those questions again i would assume
09:56yeah unfortunate is the right word craig first of all good to be back here with the nba season going
10:01and i hate that you know we're we couldn't get three days through the season without something like
10:04this kind of hanging as a dark cloud over the league you know we dealt with the jonte porter
10:09situation and i know talking about that on here before and other situations where the integrity of
10:14the league comes into a question that is always the big concern when you have fans out there trying to
10:20enjoy the product with or without wagering on what's happening during the games now you're always
10:25questioning in the back of your back of your mind is this product is is it true is is there some
10:30integrity behind it and now the nba is going to probably try to uh take a strong
10:34stance on this just in as we were on here chauncey blokes and terry rozier will be on indefinitely
10:40from their respective teams so that's going to happen i'm sure that the next step will probably be
10:44them having their contracts terminated if they are found guilty obviously have to let the due process
10:50play out but regardless of what happens the questions around it is definitely a stain on things
10:56as we're trying to enjoy the game especially just given everything around us and and the state of
11:01gambling in this relationship with the league and other professional sports leagues too
11:05yeah and i guess i'll double down on this by asking gilbert and again as somebody who really
11:09enjoys player props and gives that content uh here for the show it would seem to me that a lot of the
11:17issues that have come up since sports betting was uh legalized and in many of the states around the
11:22country is it's just surrounding that specifically so i've kind of secretly wondered can't we all still
11:27have a lot of fun if we just don't have the props like if that is the issue like it seems to me there's
11:32just so many still fun options within the game in the first half and i guess the the you know
11:37counter would be well you know they could start manipulating that as well but i haven't heard
11:41stories about that yet right right you know it's it's a little bit harder just one person to manipulate
11:47the outcome that impacts 10 people right and like you said you know we've talked about player props and
11:52other types of lines on here as well and again it's hand in hand especially in this day and age with
11:57sports books essentially being in our phones or on our computers so it's not going away but it's
12:02trying to figure out ways to regulate it to make it fun to make it fair to not impact the product on
12:08the court and that's where it gets dicey that's where it gets a little tricky um you know is there
12:12a way to to regulate the situation and put players they're going to make an example out of anybody who's
12:18found guilty we saw the lifetime ban imposed upon jontae porter whatever happens here if an example is
12:23made and we can i guess breathe easy and rest easy knowing that we don't have issues and things
12:28aren't being manipulated but at the end of the day these are human beings that that are impacting what
12:33it is that people are wagering on so there's always going to be a human element that you can never
12:38truly truly rule out with things like this yeah making 15 20 million and then wanting to make an
12:44extra couple hundred grand on on gambling that's something i'll never be able to understand i guess
12:48on the right side is with us the world series is on deck so naturally we're going to break that
12:53all down with donnie but i would be remiss if i didn't at least ask donnie who is a integral part
12:59of our network his thoughts on this big sports betting uh scandal that is out there just you know
13:05gotta do my job here donnie and ask you who's been in this business for decades just sort of how
13:10you feel about this story it feels like i mean look the otani stuff i mean who the heck knows what
13:16really happened there honestly and then the jonte porter story this was an insignificant player in
13:20the nba terry rosier donnie is going to end up making in the nba i i'm pretty sure like a hundred
13:26million dollars and he was willing to bet his under or have people bet the under on his prop for 200 000
13:32this is alarming uh in the landscape of the nba because then this you know removes the thought
13:39process of these guys are making so much money they're not going to get involved in that because
13:43that was always the excuse and i felt good about that too so now i wonder what the reaction is
13:48from you what you kind of see i know it's fresh and it's kind of just putting thoughts together
13:53here but i definitely feel like i got to ask you that's a story yeah we're humans so some of us do
13:58stupid things like when you're making 25 million dollars a year to say hey instead of just giving
14:01my boys 10 15 000 for the night to hang out here bet this i'm going to leave the game early to set you
14:07guys up for 200 grand and risk my entire career but understand this the one thing that people don't
14:12understand is oh maybe gambling isn't so good anymore at this point understand this the fail
14:17safes in legalized sports gambling are sensational now at this point which allows us to say hey why
14:22is the guy that uses fan dollar draft kings here craig betting 10 to 15 a game then all of a sudden
14:27bet a thousand dollars on an under let's just say for terry rose here it's due to bring up those flags
14:31and eradicates that information one thing we do know it's the same thing across all walks of life
14:35you know you know legalized obviously alcohol you can drive but you can't drink and drive people do that
14:40every single day people are going to make stupid decisions because sometimes we're human beings
14:44it's just amazing to see a guy who seemingly has it all risk his entire livelihood over a
14:48couple hundred thousand dollars when he's set to make 20 times that each and every year it's pretty
14:53insane so so my livelihood and yours is based around sports betting so in no way can we be fully
15:00transparent or accurate we want sports betting to continue it is our jobs but transparently speaking
15:06though donnie this is the fair question i think we have to ask i i don't think anything needs to
15:12be changed in the landscape of betting against the spread first halves etc is there some question
15:18about player props have we gone too far down the road with player props and specifically
15:25does this look it's going to shed light on not doing it in a very big way i think donnie it opens
15:31up a little bit to the kids in college hey wait a second all of a sudden terry rosier got paid two
15:36hundred thousand dollars for something on his prop maybe i can make you know i'm not saying that that
15:40is the case i'm just want to at least ask the question specifically only on that the optics are
15:46bad like there's no question about it like when we're doing a live show this morning on the early
15:49line it's popping that people are getting suspended now we don't know what the initial information was
15:53but you're figuring they're betting on sports and oh my goodness this isn't a good look but
15:57it's seeming like we're all for too far down the track if that makes sense because when you take
16:01a look at the whole grand scheme of things the nba is completely in bed with gambling so are all sports
16:05leagues there's a reason why craig these teams are going from wait man i paid a hundred million
16:09dollars for this franchise in 1992 now i can sell it for six billion dollars that's a big part of it
16:14and understand the the larger part of the story let's just say last night's football game craig the
16:18early game about 19 million people watch that just say two or three knuckleheads sent issues to
16:23some players who didn't cash props for them that's a small microscope that we're starting to pick up at
16:27this point people do dumb things and also social media exacerbates that because you'll have to
16:31amplify it it wasn't a good look the optics aren't good but gambling is here to stay same thing with
16:36cigarettes same thing with alcohol it's not the best for you it's a vice for most people but hopefully
16:41you just tame it down and us being in the sports business it's not a good look because the people that
16:45don't understand what's going on oh look at that it was never this bad it was always this bad the mafia
16:49was always connected to sports gambling and keeping in the shadows was not a good thing
16:53bringing it to light you're also going to bring out the cockroaches that are going to scramble
16:56around at times too it's just the part of life that you deal with sometimes money is just too big

17:11the show today but given the big news released by the fbi about this sports betting and looks like
17:19illegal other sports ring by a former nba player and head coach we wanted to bring him in to get
17:23his thoughts robert you'll be busy covering this i'm sure uh let's start off let's start off with
17:28terry rosier whose lawyers uh say that he's going to fight this and that uh they you know gave him no
17:34warning which is a weird statement to make saying you know complaining about the warning they wanted to
17:39make example of him i think the fbi also outlined that this is not going to be popular because he's a
17:44player in the nba and chauncey billups by the way a very uh prominent former player in the nba and nba
17:50head coach so uh your thoughts three hours into this story let's begin there thanks for having me on
17:57craig uh i'll try and try and give you the details of what i know um just bearing in mind that this is
18:04really uh the work of an investigation on both the sports betting and illegal poker uh scandals that we'll
18:13talk about um from a multi-year investigation from the fbi uh so what we know so far is terry rogier
18:23obviously of the heat has or is basically involved in the same type of sports betting scandal uh that
18:30actually involves some of the same players as former toronto raptor center uh jonte porter um if
18:38you remember his case it's a similar one to rogier's in which uh several gamblers uh knew um that rogier
18:48was going to pull himself out of a march 2023 game when he was a member of the charlotte hornet
18:55a number of bets were placed on several unders for rogier um which resulted in thousands upon thousands of
19:04dollars uh of wins um obviously these were flagged by integrity monitors um as suspicious uh and rogier
19:15has actually been under investigation by the federal gov by the federal government since january um
19:22everything came to light this morning uh when espn's uh shams tirania uh started tweeting out that uh first
19:30rogier had been arrested uh and then chauncey billups had been arrested and then damon jones
19:36had been arrested for their roles in either the sports betting or poker scandals uh that we'll talk
19:42about um i listened to the press conference from the fbi and the department of justice uh it seems like
19:52this is like i said it's very similar to the porter situation it involves a lot of the same people that
19:57were involved in the porter situation um porter as you know pled guilty to wire fraud charges uh he's
20:04awaiting sentencing and you know i imagine um well i won't speculate on what will happen with rogier but
20:12he will be arraigned later today uh in miami federal court and we'll see what happens as more information
20:19comes out robert do you feel just from you're reading through this that from what rozier's lawyer
20:29is saying that they wanted to make a big spectacle of this and that the nba if found to be guilty uh
20:36will be looking to do something serious with these players because the bottom line is this is the highest
20:41profile player that has been involved in this and i know billups is for something completely different
20:46but the rozier news is really interesting because it wasn't that long ago where they said that they
20:51looked into it and found nothing sure uh you know i'm not going to speculate on whether or not they
20:56want to make a splash with this um you know i've seen some people say that yeah this was sort of a
21:03a way for director fbi director cash patel to you know basically trumpet this great job that they did
21:10and the fbi did but you are correct in that it is certainly the highest profile player i mean people
21:18i'd say not many people outside of toronto knew who jonte porter was uh before he became front and
21:25center for his sports betting scandal uh rogier has certainly been a high profile player in the league
21:31and he you know if he does face uh uh these punishments or is found guilty it will be a high
21:38profile case uh you're right about billups i mean he's a member of the hall of fame uh he was involved
21:43with a poker uh scandal where uh the italian mafia members uh rigged games that they promoted that would
21:51be attended by himself and former nba player and coach damon jones uh so it's really nothing that the
21:58nba wanted to see this morning um certainly is going to front and center uh for the next coming months
22:05as more details come out and it's not going to be great for everyone that's involved including you
