00:00So I've been audited three times and each time I'm like, whoa, what you want to know?
00:05You're almost like, IRS, please audit me.
00:09Virtual reality.
00:13Jack McBrayer from Zillow Gone Wild, season two.
00:17Here we are.
00:17How does it feel?
00:18It feels great.
00:19It's been a very fun job and we get to do it again.
00:22Yeah.
00:22I know.
00:23It's so much.
00:23And I was telling you before we started filming, I am such a Zillow stalker.
00:27I live my life always looking for a house for no reason.
00:29Was that, what was your relationship with Zillow and house hunting before the show figured out?
00:33Great question.
00:35The house I have in California right now is kind of my dream house.
00:37But with that being said, anytime I'm like strolling around, taking a hike and I see an open house,
00:42I will go inside that open house just to see what they're doing.
00:46So I wasn't necessarily online as much, but I will go to an open house.
00:50And the cool thing is with Zillow Gone Wild, I get to do in person what you're doing on your computer.
00:55I know.
00:55You were literally living the dream.
00:57I know.
00:57That's so fun.
00:57And are you someone whenever, because I'm so like this, when I go on vacation, I'm like,
01:01okay, I'm moving to this, like, city or something like that.
01:04Are you doing open houses abroad, internationally, you know what I mean?
01:07Do you spend that?
01:08Well, I mean, like, part of the job I get to go to other cities that I have maybe not been
01:12to before or just not familiar with.
01:13And so don't get me wrong.
01:15I was in Arizona going like, I see you, Tucson.
01:18Arizona is kind of a vibe.
01:20I love Arizona.
01:21It was, you know, I'm a sucker for warm weather.
01:24So, you know, we were also in Rochester, Minnesota.
01:27Beautiful town.
01:29Not for you.
01:30I could come in mid-August for four days.
01:32How many towns and houses did we check out for season two?
01:36I know we saw 30 houses.
01:38Oh, that's a lot.
01:38And the way we filmed it, they would like, I know it's a lot, but they all kind of just blend
01:41together after a while.
01:42But the network would try to, like, send us to, for example, Florida, and then we do
01:48Orlando, Sarasota, you know, that kind of thing.
01:51So it was definitely 30 houses, and I would say maybe like eight regions.
01:56And so let's say the region of Arizona and the region of Minnesota, that kind of thing.
02:01And it's probably hard to determine, because I'm sure a lot of them blur together.
02:04Did one region really stick out like, oh, they go wild here?
02:09Florida's got some unique houses.
02:11Okay, so tell us about some of the unique...
02:13They got some unique people and some unique houses.
02:15Yes, yes.
02:15Tell us about the unique houses you saw in Florida.
02:18Florida, I mean, there was this one in Sarasota, and they're all so fun, so there's no judgment
02:23here when I say this, but the home, it's a two-parter, and the first house was built
02:29to look exactly like a ship, just on land, but like so to the point that, like, the floors
02:35are slanted, like on a ship.
02:36I kind of love that.
02:38You really feel in the moment.
02:39And then the little guest cottage was a lighthouse.
02:42Oh, wait, that's really cute.
02:43And everyone had skirvy.
02:45Everyone had skirvy.
02:46The end.
02:46Goodbye, everybody.
02:47Watch the show.
02:48Now, we were, because we were laughing, because I, I don't know, what, you travel so much,
02:52I know you're not based in New York, but Boop the Musical, I'm obsessed with it, and
02:56he was, Evan was saying that if I was on the show, I would have like a Boop-themed house.
02:59What, you could inspire a house based on something you're obsessed with.
03:03I know you have your dream house, but like, what outlandish thing do you think would be Jack's house?
03:07I mean, I'm a sucker.
03:09Like an obsession or something.
03:09I'm a sucker for Hawaii.
03:13Oh.
03:13And so, but would it be like appropriation to have a Hawaii theme home in LA?
03:20I mean.
03:20Well, like some like luau's and everything like that.
03:22Yeah, that would be fun.
03:23I could see that.
03:23I love it.
03:24I love tropics.
03:25I love, kind of like that, not that I'm a surfer, but like a surf vibe.
03:30I like, I like coconut.
03:32Okay, there we go.
03:33I love to that.
03:34Was there any house that you saw while filming season two that you're like, you know what,
03:37maybe I will put an offer on this one?
03:40You know, there were aspects of each one.
03:43God, there was this one in San Juan Capistrano, which is right down the street from where I live.
03:47But it was so beautiful.
03:48I'm telling you, my favorite part was like meeting these people and hearing why they chose this house
03:54or they made these decisions or they decided to like, you know, put mirrors on the ceiling or whatever.
03:59Oh, okay.
04:00Well, I mean, I can imagine why.
04:02Maybe there's mirrors on the ceiling.
04:04They love themselves and I love that for them.
04:06We have to talk about this shoe house.
04:08I'm obsessed with the house that looks like a shoe.
04:10Where was that and what was the story behind it?
04:12The shoe house was in York, Pennsylvania, and the home was actually designed as a marketing campaign.
04:18The original owner and builder was a shoe salesman.
04:21And so built a house that looked like a shoe and guess what?
04:25It worked.
04:25We're still talking about it.
04:26That was some Bethany Frankel level genius.
04:28You know, the skinny girl when she had her car just driving around town with her like logo on the side of it.
04:33Well, I mean, even the Hollywood sign was an advertisement back in the day.
04:36It was like Hollywood land.
04:38And now it's iconic and so is this shoe house.
04:40Exactly.
04:41We were laughing about how because obviously you're in L.A.
04:44but you spent some time in New York, of course, for 30 Rock.
04:46And then before then just kind of like getting out, you know, grinding and everything like that.
04:51And how New York is a very special type of apartment hunting.
04:55Do you still remember some horror stories from, you know, the trying to make a Jack apartment?
05:01Well, the very, very first apartment I was in was on 9th Street and 2nd Avenue just by the Vasilka.
05:08And I will never forget.
05:11It was a fifth floor walk up.
05:13And my room wasn't big enough for a mattress.
05:16So they had built like this little loft and it wasn't even a real mattress.
05:19It was almost just like a sleeping bag full of hay essentially.
05:22And I was there for three months.
05:25And I got to say, when you're young and broke, you can do something like that for a limited amount of time.
05:30Yes.
05:31I eventually moved into a somewhat bigger apartment in Alphabet City, 2nd Street between B and C.
05:38It was directly across from a fire station.
05:40So very quiet.
05:42Very quiet.
05:43And yet my roommate, it was a room, but it didn't have any doors.
05:48So we had to tack up like accordion, oh, yes, you know.
05:52So a great deal of privacy.
05:55Wow.
05:56Religious, you, yourself and you.
05:57How long were you in Alphabet City before you booked 30 Rock?
06:00Well, I mean, all told, let's say about three years.
06:03Okay.
06:04Because, you know, I was hustling.
06:05I was doing the UCB comedy scene.
06:08I was doing bits on Conan O'Brien's late night show.
06:10So I was just like any struggling actor, just a hustling.
06:14And so then I actually decided, you know what?
06:16This has been fun, but I'm freezing cold.
06:18Let me go to L.A. and be, you know, tan and broke.
06:21Tan.
06:22Right.
06:22Tanning mom.
06:23There you go.
06:24It was way too tan.
06:25You always looks insane.
06:26It's glowing, though.
06:27You're glowing.
06:28And also, if I had a, if my house had a pool, I would be this tan too.
06:31I spend a great deal of time by that pool.
06:33Yeah, as you should.
06:34I live in a studio apartment.
06:35There's no pool.
06:36Not yet.
06:38That's right.
06:38But yes, I, wait, what was I just talking about?
06:42You moved to L.A.
06:43Oh, hustling.
06:44Yeah, so I moved to L.A. and I was there for not even a year.
06:46Got 30 Rock.
06:47Had to move back.
06:48Oh my God.
06:48That's always how life works.
06:50When you got 30 Rock was, because we were saying that you were able to, you know, get
06:53into a better apartment.
06:54Yes.
06:54Was an apartment the first thing you splurged on or was there something else you splurged
06:57on?
06:58Well, the first thing I splurged on was getting my old metal fillings replaced with, like, tooth
07:05colored fillings.
07:06Wow.
07:06Oh, okay, that's important.
07:08Hey, yeah, help as well.
07:10Yeah.
07:10Well, it's true.
07:11And also, I mean, like, my smile, I've got, like, a thousand teeth and say, you know,
07:14you just want to make sure they look like teeth.
07:16You want to take care of them.
07:17They're so bright and white, too.
07:18I love that.
07:18Compared to this.
07:21With the tan, they really pop.
07:22You know who you are coming to because we love a tan.
07:24I'm from Jersey, so I love, that's why I was like, you are, yeah.
07:27Jersey Shore.
07:27Yes.
07:28Yeah, exactly.
07:28Did you have a vacation there?
07:30Um, I, do you call it a vacation?
07:31It's everyone shouting and, like, like, throwing four locals around.
07:34If that's a vacation in your mind, yes.
07:35Danny took me to the Jersey Shore once.
07:37It was wonderful.
07:38I loved it.
07:38We took him on a lot, I guess.
07:40Is that true?
07:41Yeah, we hung out with all the Jersey Shore kids.
07:43Oh, my gosh.
07:43It was a great time.
07:44Do you watch reality TV?
07:45Are you into reality TV?
07:46Is it rude if I say no?
07:48No.
07:48We want to hear the truth.
07:49You don't, okay.
07:49The reason I think you would like it, though, because basically, you get to see inside all
07:53these people's houses.
07:53Yes.
07:54And so many times they lose their houses, which is sad, but interesting.
07:57Okay, so, let's talk about this real quick.
07:59The one reality show I thought I might tune into, because, of course, I have control issues.
08:04Of course.
08:05But, you know, there was once upon a time, there was a show called Hoarder.
08:09Oh, yeah.
08:09And so I thought, well, if I'm feeling bad about myself, let me watch this show.
08:13And so I thought it would make me feel like a little more in control, and it didn't.
08:17It's very sad.
08:17It was hard to watch.
08:18It's also what I would do, say.
08:19And I didn't realize what hoarding meant, and I didn't realize, like, oh, this is a clinical
08:25thing.
08:26So it brought about a bit more anxiety and not positive feelings.
08:30So I was like, I might be done with reality TV.
08:35But to be fair, I haven't watched, like, a more ensemble-based.
08:38Or, like, where we have characters that we're visiting.
08:41Would you ever do any more reality TV, beyond this show?
08:44I mean, this is fun.
08:44This is hosting.
08:45This is visiting homes and such.
08:47But would you do, like, a Traitors?
08:48Like, I feel like you would have so much fun on the Traitors.
08:50Okay.
08:50So that show is about who's the best liar?
08:53Is that right?
08:53Yes.
08:53Or who's the best faithful?
08:55Well, we know that I'm neither the best actor.
08:57Stop.
08:58But I'm also, I'm not a good liar.
08:59Like, that is, that brings me anxiety as well.
09:03I don't even like knowing about a surprise party or something.
09:06Because then it feels like I'm lying.
09:07Oh, okay.
09:07So, all right.
09:07So, I just don't tell you about a surprise party because I don't like surprise parties.
09:10Traitors might not be.
09:11But, I mean, I do got to say, like, there is a difference between reality and unscripted,
09:15right?
09:15Yes.
09:15Right.
09:15Yeah.
09:16Okay.
09:16So, like, the fact that I'm a host on an unscripted program right now, it has made me wonder,
09:21like, oh, well, this is what it feels like to be Jack McBrayer on a TV show.
09:25Yes.
09:25Instead of, like, a character reading a script kind of thing.
09:27So, it does make me think about what else could this look like?
09:30What else could I do along these lines?
09:32Oh.
09:33Because also, and also, Donna Kelsey, you know, like, Travis Kelsey's mom is going on
09:36The Traitors now.
09:37So, there are, like, fun, like, sweethearts going on the show.
09:40I don't know how well she'll do because she's going on with a lot of housewives that, um.
09:44Who are good at lying.
09:45Who are good at lying.
09:45Yeah.
09:46I know.
09:48That kind of thing probably wouldn't make me feel good.
09:50I mean, have you played the game, like, what do you call it?
09:52Mafia.
09:53Oh, yes.
09:54Or werewolves or whatever you call it.
09:55Which is kind of the same concept.
09:57Right.
09:57I'm not good at that.
09:58It, it, it makes me, I'm just not good at it.
10:02Wait, and before we let you know, I am curious.
10:03No, but I'm curious because you go into a lot of people's homes on the show.
10:07Yeah.
10:07But if people were to go into your house, what would be, like, the most surprising thing
10:10they would say?
10:13I mean, I'm telling you, I'm a boring person.
10:15Now, this.
10:16You call your house boring beautiful, so.
10:18I know there's some stunning art in there.
10:19Two things can be true.
10:20I don't have stunning art.
10:21Here's one thing.
10:22Oh, I can't, this is the first time I've ever told people this.
10:24Again, I have control issues.
10:26And I would not be so glib as to say I have OCD.
10:28But, I have every pay stub, every invoice, every receipt, going back for 10 years, organized,
10:38labeled, filed.
10:39Wow.
10:40In my closet.
10:40So, I've been audited three times, and each time I'm like, what you want to know?
10:46You're almost like, IRS, please audit me.
10:48Right.
10:48See, this is why you can never be on reality TV, though.
10:50They don't want to get audited.
10:51Yeah.
10:52They don't get along with the IRS.
10:54So, you're, yeah, you're not a man.
10:56You're friends with the enemy.
10:57You're not going to be on.
10:58I'm in.
10:59That's really cool.
11:00What inspired you to start doing that?
11:01I don't know.
11:02Mental health issues.
11:03Right.
11:03Wait, that's amazing, though.
11:04This couch can serve a lot of purpose.
11:05Wait.
11:06I need to know.
11:07What's your sign?
11:08Gemini.
11:08Gemini.
11:09Okay.
11:09I was giving Virgo energy.
11:11Yeah.
11:12How dare you.
11:12But I love a Gemini.
11:14I'm married to a Gemini.
11:15Don't ever speak to me like that again.
11:15I do love a Gemini.
11:16Well, here's the thing.
11:17I defend my Gemini-ness because, you know, it's duality.
11:22You're adaptable.
11:23Sort of.
11:23It's just like, I like control.
11:25I like routine.
11:26I like structure.
11:26But then I've chosen improv as my art form.
11:29There you go.
11:30There are no rules.
11:31Control chaos.
11:31Yeah, a little bit of both.
11:33Here we are.
11:34With some house tours mixed in.
11:35We did it, Dad.
11:37Oh, my God.
11:38Thank you so much for taking the time to join us.
11:39This is really fun.
11:40Yay.
11:40Okay, we can't wait to watch the rest of the season.
11:42Yeah, please do.
11:43You'll enjoy it.
11:43Oh, it's happening.
11:44Yeah.
11:44Yay.
