00:00of the Kingdom of Thailand, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and the President
00:07of the United States of America.
00:19Well, this is so exciting because we did something that a lot of people said couldn't be done
00:25and we saved maybe millions of lives on this one-piece deal itself.
00:32And I'll tell you what makes me so happy is the two countries we're dealing with and the third that helped so much.
00:39I appreciate so much. Maybe it couldn't have been done without you, but they really like each other.
00:46I'm not used to that when I do these deals. Usually there's a lot of hatred. They like each other.
00:51So it made it a little bit easier. But millions of people are alive today because of this peace treaty.
00:58So before I begin, I want to extend our deepest condolences to the Prime Minister,
01:04Ahn Newton, as well as His Majesty, the King of Thailand,
01:09and the entire nation on the passing of Her Majesty,
01:14Queen Sirikhet, the Queen Mother,
01:17and a beautiful, incredible woman who is so respected
01:21all over, all over, all over the world, actually, respected.
01:26I know the people of Thailand will remember her forever
01:29as the embodiment of dignity, kindness, and grace.
01:33This just happened. But this is a woman who is so
01:36loved and respected.
01:39Today, we honor the memory by
01:42bringing the blessing of peace to the nation she dearly loved.
01:47She loved this nation like few people love their nations.
01:50This is a momentous day for all of the people of Southeast Asia
01:56as we sign a historic agreement to end the military conflict
01:59between Cambodia and Thailand.
02:03And we're so honored to be involved in that.
02:05It's so important to me. Two great countries.
02:08But they were they were going at it.
02:11I want to congratulate the two courageous leaders.
02:15And that's what they are. They were courageous.
02:17We're taking this monumental step.
02:20Prime Minister Hoon Manette and Prime Minister Ah Newton.
02:27I also want to thank Prime Minister Anwar of Malaysia.
02:31I called him right at the beginning and I said,
02:33you know, you have two countries that are fighting right next to you.
02:36We need a third place. We need a sort of a neutral place, right?
02:40And he was there and I said to him, you know,
02:43if we get this solved, I'm coming to your country.
02:47And I told the truth, didn't I?
02:50A lot of times they say that and that's the last you ever see.
02:52But I felt I had an obligation to come because you were so great
02:56and the two men alongside of you are so great.
02:58Historic figures now, really historic figures.
03:01So I felt it was an obligation I had.
03:03I told it to you. That was about a year ago.
03:07And all of this has taken place. It's been so beautiful to see.
03:11It had started and it was there was a lot of killing.
03:14And then when we got it stopped very quickly in this case,
03:18some some we did in 32 years, took 32 years to get them stopped.
03:22They were fighting for a long time. This was very nasty,
03:26but it was stopped very quickly before it started.
03:28And the two leaders have great respect for each other.
03:33But the prime minister played a very important role
03:37in helping convene the two sides for discussions here in Kuala Lumpur.
03:42Earlier this year, an armed clash broke out along the border of these two countries.
03:47Really ancient countries by most standards have been long time, tremendous cultures resulting in numerous deaths
03:58and thousands, thousands and thousands of people displaced from their homes.
04:02It was starting because of America's strong commitment to stability and peace in this region
04:08and every region where we can do it.
04:10My administration immediately began working to prevent the conflict from escalating.
04:16I held phone calls with both leaders.
04:20I was actually at Turnberry in Scotland when I did this.
04:23And we had a lot of phone calls to the three of us and then the four of us.
04:29We had a lot of phone calls.
04:31It was a beautiful day. I remember how beautiful it was.
04:36Turnberry is a great place.
04:37But I said, this is much more important than playing a round of golf.
04:41So we sat there all day long making phone calls.
04:43And it was amazing the way it came together very quickly.
04:47I mean, really very quickly.
04:48You caused me very good entertainment.
04:51I could have had a lot of fun.
04:52But this is much more fun for me than anything having to do with almost anything
04:57because you're saving people and you're saving countries.
05:00But I asked them to choose the path of prosperity and peace
05:04over needless bloodshed and war.
05:06At the end of July, after extremely productive discussions, we reached a ceasefire agreement.
05:13And now these gentlemen, and they really are gentlemen, high quality people.
05:18Both went to college in the United States.
05:22And now these gentlemen are about to sign what we're calling the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accords.
05:28Good name.
05:30Both countries are agreeing to cease all hostilities and work to build good neighborly relationships,
05:37which they've already started.
05:39Eighteen Cambodian prisoners of war will be released.
05:43And under this agreement, observers from ASEAN countries, including Malaysia,
05:50will be deployed to make sure that the peace prevails and endures.
05:54And I have no doubt that it will.
05:56We have another situation like that right now in the Middle East and Gaza.
06:01You might have read a little bit about Gaza.
06:03And that's another one we're very proud of.
06:06But we have a lot of people watching that, a lot of people.
06:10I think this is a much different kind of a thing.
06:12The two countries are getting along really well.
06:16Today, alongside this peace treaty, we also are signing a major trade deal with Cambodia
06:22and a very important critical minerals agreement with Thailand.
06:26The United States will have a robust commerce and cooperation.
06:31Transactions, lots of them, with both nations as long as they live in peace.
06:36And I really feel that when we make deals, we see two countries that we do a lot of business with.
06:43We do a lot of business with both of them.
06:45We have to use that business to make sure they don't get into wars.
06:51But this is going to be a very long piece.
06:54So as you know, this is one of eight wars that my administration has ended in just eight months.
07:00We're averaging one a month.
07:01There is only one left, although I heard that Pakistan and Afghanistan have started up.
07:07But I'll get that solved very quickly.
07:09I know them both.
07:10And the Pakistan, the field marshal, and the prime minister are great people.
07:16And I have no doubt we're going to get that done quickly.
07:19That one started up a few days ago.
07:22And I just feel it's something I can do.
07:25I do it nicely.
07:26I don't need to do it, I guess.
07:28But if I can take time and save millions of lives, that's really a great thing.
07:32I can't think of anything better to do.
07:34But the eight wars that my administration has ended in just eight months, there's never been anything like that.
07:40Never.
07:41There never will be either.
07:43I can't think of any president that ever solved one war.
07:46I don't think anybody.
07:46They start wars.
07:47They don't solve them.
07:48So nothing like this has been done in history.
07:51And it's an honor to be involved.
07:54On behalf of the United States, I'm proud to help settle this conflict and really develop good friendships, including people that work with each team.
08:03Look at these very distinguished people.
08:05Except for my people.
08:07My people are much less distinguished.
08:09But they're very good.
08:11But look.
08:12My people understand the joke.
08:15But look at these very distinguished people.
08:16And I've gotten to know them.
08:17I want to thank Marco Rubio for being here.
08:20It was great.
08:22You always help.
08:23He was born for this job.
08:24He really was.
08:25He was born for this job.
08:26Secretary of State Jameson, thank you very much for all you did on helping, too.
08:32He's the foremost expert on trade.
08:35And we're going to be doing another couple of stops where we'll be talking about no war, just pure trade.
08:40We'll be talking to President Xi in a day.
08:44We'll be stopping at Japan.
08:46We'll be stopping at South Korea.
08:48And we'll be doing some other things.
08:50But they're more related to trade.
08:52But on behalf of the United States, I'm proud to help settle this conflict and forge a future for the region where proud, independent nations can prosper and thrive, safety, security, and peace.
09:05It's an amazing thing that's happened to the United States because a year ago, a year and a half ago, we were a dead country.
09:13We were actually a dead country.
09:14And now we're the hottest country anywhere in the world.
09:16And when I called you, we were in the process of becoming hot.
09:21It's actually quite a while right now.
09:23But we were sort of on our way.
09:25And we had won the election big in a massive amount.
09:29And so I was respected when I called you.
09:31And it was a little bit easier.
09:32I think it's easier when you respect somebody than if you don't respect somebody.
09:36If you don't respect somebody, it never happens.
09:39But I won't forget that day because it was one of the first wars that I got involved in.
09:47And I love doing it.
09:49I love it.
09:49It's like I shouldn't say it's a hobby because it's so much more serious than a hobby.
09:54But it's something that I'm good at and it's something I love to do.
09:58The United Nations should be doing this, but they don't do it.
10:01They turned off my teleprompter when I made a speech.
10:04I had to make a speech without a teleprompter.
10:06They're good at that.
10:07The escalator wasn't working too well.
10:09It came to a complete halt.
10:12But, I mean, the United Nations has such great potential.
10:16I wish they could do it.
10:18They didn't get involved with us at all.
10:19We just did the deal and reported the deal.
10:22And everybody was sort of amazed that we got it done so quickly and so nicely.
10:26But now I'd like to ask Prime Minister Anwar to say a few words.
10:30And then we'll hear from Prime Minister Hoon Manet and Prime Minister Newton.
10:37And these are, I just have to say for a last time, these are incredible men.
10:42The way they came together, the way they worked so hard.
10:45And we worked long hours.
10:47It was not long days because the days were few in number, but the hours were very long and very intense.
10:55There was a lot of intensity going on because there was a lot of shooting happening while we were talking.
11:00That brings it to a new level.
11:02And the three men sitting there should really be credited with having done just an incredible job for humanity.
11:10Thank you all very much.
11:11It's an honor to have worked with you.
11:13Appreciate it.
11:14Please.
11:14Thank you, President Donald Trump, for giving us this honor.
11:27And on behalf of, of course, Malaysia and our colleagues in ASEAN, I must thank you for your concern, for your empathy, and for your commitment to support this peace deal.
11:37When I first received your call, and then urging me to do more and supporting our initiative, and you personally did call both Prime Ministers to urge for a speedy peace settlement, I would say a great thank you.
11:56And we, of course, admire your tenacity, your courage, because the world needs leaders who promote peace strongly.
12:07And to achieve that, you have to break some rules, as you did today.
12:16When the President arrived, he asked me to join him in the car.
12:20I said that's against the security and protocol rules.
12:23And he was delighted to break the rules, and I...
12:26It was a nice ride.
12:29It was a nice ride.
12:31And we share a lot of things in common.
12:34I was in prison, but he almost got there.
12:38But we're very good exchanges on a number of issues.
12:43Of course, priorities, of course, the peace deal.
12:46Thank you, both Prime Ministers.
12:47You did a great job.
12:48We are delighted to have you as colleagues, as true friends, and you understand the need to secure peace to save our people.
12:58And also the ASEAN position as a region of peace and prosperity.
13:02And I must also share with you here that I took the opportunity, full opportunity, without Secretary Rubio knowing this, exploring other issues too,
13:15and thank the President for his effort to secure peace in many parts of the world, including Gaza,
13:22and urging him to remain focused and ensure that there's a comprehensive peace that the world requires.
13:31And I am delighted, truly, President, to hear from you personally how determined you are to ensure that peace is achieved in the most intractable areas.
13:45It's almost impossible, but you did it, and we have shown our support and call on the United States in particular to continue this with the support of many, not only neighbours, but the part of the world.
14:01But I must also take this opportunity to thank Secretary Rubio, Jameson, and Ambassador Kagan, because they were very helpful.
14:09I mean, you didn't say that, but I must say that, because they were extremely helpful in ensuring that you come here.
14:17I mean, I wasn't sure when you said to me, yes, Prime Minister, I know I'm coming.
14:22Well, I'm not sure, because, you know, I deal with a lot of politicians.
14:26But you are an exception. Thank you, Mr. Donald Trump. Thank you very much again.
14:39President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen.
14:57Today marks a historic moment, profound, significant for Cambodia and Thailand.
15:01A day that reaffirmed our shared conviction that peace is always possible.
15:06When nations have the courage and wisdom to pursue it together.
15:12On behalf of the Cambodian peoples, I wish to express my deepest gratitude to President Donald J. Trump for his decisive leadership
15:20and steadfast commitment to supporting the lasting peace between Cambodia and Thailand
15:26and for his tireless efforts to make it a reality.
15:30I also wish to convey my sincere appreciation to Prime Minister Anwar for his unwavering support
15:38and facilitation throughout this peace process until successful conclusions.
15:45I further extend my appreciation to my ASEAN colleagues, China, and other partners who have been supporting the CIS-5 from the beginning.
15:52The principles that underpin this joint declaration are those that Cambodia holds dear.
16:01That no matter how difficult or complex our dispute may be,
16:07they must always be resolved through peaceful means in full conformity with existing treaties and international law.
16:14Cambodia reaffirms a strong commitment to fully and faithfully implementing this joint declaration
16:21and to continuing to work closely with Thailand and all our partners to ensure that this peace endures
16:29and brings tangible benefit to our peoples.
16:34We look forward to continued support and contribution of international communities and partners
16:39to fruitful realizations of the joint declarations.
16:44As we speak, I think our two commanders are discussing on the possibility of partial withdrawal of the first phase of our heavy weapons
16:56as an indication of our willingness to show that the execution of the joint declarations.
17:05At the same time, I strongly hope for the prompt release of our 18 soldiers on humanitarian grounds
17:14and as agreed in the joint declarations.
17:18Finally, recognizing your unwavering dedications
17:21and resolute effort to promote peace, and not only between Cambodia and Thailand,
17:25but also among other nations.
17:29And reflecting the gratitude of the Cambodian peoples,
17:32I have nominated President Donald J. Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
17:37And he...
17:38Like I say, peace saved life.
17:42And this is the wish of our Cambodian people as appreciations for the president.
17:46So thank you very much, Mr. President.
17:50Thank you, sir.
18:25We take a concrete step towards peace.
18:31I would like to thank Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for the leadership as ASEAN chair
18:37and your strong efforts in upholding ASEAN unity.
18:41And I also wish to express my sincere appreciation to President Donald J. Trump for your personal dedication to peace between our two countries.
18:57And in addition, I thank so much for the kind words of condolences that the President has given to our country on the great loss of our beloved Queen Mother.
19:18It means a lot to Thai people.
19:20We have come a long way since agreeing to the ceasefire here in Malaysia on 28th of July.
19:30The discussions since then have led to this important outcome, which is the signing of our joint declaration today.
19:39And I have to thank Prime Minister Hoon Manet for his cooperation and support that led us to this moment.
19:48Thailand stands for peace.
19:50This declaration reflects our will to resolve differences peacefully, in full respect of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
20:02This declaration, if fully implemented, will provide the building blocks for a lasting peace.
20:11But more importantly, it will begin the process of mending our ties.
20:16Our border communities have been divided by conflict, and innocent civilians have suffered immense losses.
20:26This declaration places a firm responsibility, our two parties to act.
20:33I believe we can achieve what seemed beyond reach a few months ago.
20:40To this end, I welcome the agreement that following the signing of this joint declaration today,
20:47both sides will begin implementing all the agreed points, in particular promptly removing heavy weapons from the border areas to ensure the safety of our people,
20:59to build confidence and trust, to build confidence and trust, and Thailand will also begin the process of releasing the 18 detained Cambodian soldiers.
21:09We have a responsibility to act in earnest and in good faith, and that we restore livelihoods and protect the well-being of our communities along our shared border.
21:22To achieve real change on the ground, what we agree on here must be implemented.
21:30Only then can we truly turn to a new page.
21:35Only then can we assure that our people's security and safety.
21:42Only then can we achieve real peace.
21:45This is what our people expect of us, and this is what they deserve.
21:50Peace with dignity.
21:53Going forward, I call on our friends to continue supporting this process so that the joint declaration is implemented fully and in good faith.
22:05Rebuilding stability, trust, and renew cooperation between Thailand and Cambodia and across our region.
22:14I am also pleased that today we announced a joint statement on the framework for our U.S.-Thailand agreement on reciprocal trade,
22:23which I hope will facilitate our negotiations on tariffs for conclusion by end of this year.
22:30We will also sign the MOU between our governments on cooperation on critical minerals,
22:39which will further promote resilient and sustainable supply chains for years to come.
22:45Thank you once again.
22:47Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
22:51Thank you very much.
25:30Thank you very much, everybody.
25:54We have additional greens, Mr. President.
25:57We have the Cambodian trade deal, and we have the critical medicals.
26:01All right.
26:02We're going to sign up.
26:04We're signing our trade deal.
26:05I thought we could forget about this deal.
26:07They make a very good deal.
26:09This is the Cambodian trade deal, Mr. President.
26:16And this is a great deal for both countries.
26:34This is a great deal.
26:35You want to go?
26:36You want to go?
26:37You want to go?
26:38Yes.
26:39Wow.
26:40The President has a special.
26:41I have a special.
26:42And this is the Thai critical minerals.
26:45Okay.
26:47This is the Thai critical minerals.
26:48Okay.
28:33Thank you very much, and congratulations, everybody.
28:56Thank you very much.
29:14Thank you very much.
