A driving simulator built from an old ute is helping young people with disabilities in regional South Australia who thought they'd never drive. The technology's been found to improve driving competency by almost 50 per cent and is boosting young people's confidence behind the wheel.

00:09I never had the experience like country kids do just driving around what not because I was always told I'd never be able to drive.

00:25A lot of my clients were dealing with that going from on road well I guess having no experience at all on road to driving a car on road was like a daunting experience for them.

00:42A disability service provider converted this old ute into a simulator for people with disabilities who want to learn to drive.
00:50It's made me really confident like I don't think I'd be where I am driving now to if I didn't use it.
00:57I've got you know 10 to 20 clients now that have gone on and get their L's and they've said to me first hand like oh it's amazing how much more confidence they've been able to sort of gain from this.
