00:00With an eye on the 2026 midterm elections, President Trump has teased an upcoming executive
00:05order dealing with election integrity. Now, Trump did not delve into too much of the specifics about
00:11what he's going to try to do with this executive order, but he did drop a few hints by railing
00:17against the widespread use of mail-in ballots and voting machines. Trump has long criticized
00:22both mail-in ballots and voting machines and suggested that they undermine the integrity
00:27of elections. There are a lot of election experts and officials that strongly dispute him on this
00:34front. Now, back in March, Trump had tried an executive action to deal with mail-in ballots.
00:40The EO that he signed at the time would have blocked states from counting mail-in ballots that
00:46were postmarked before election day, but came in after election day. A judge blocked Trump from
00:51enforcing that EO back in June. So it's not entirely clear what he's going to try to do here,
00:57but he did appear to preempt some of the concerns from critics that presidents don't have a lot of
01:02power over elections. And he argued that states should be seen as agents of the federal government
01:08in carrying out these elections. Now, what's notable about this is it comes after his meeting with
01:14Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska. And after that meeting, Trump told Fox News' Sean Hannity that
01:21Putin told him that he was deprived of victory in the 2020 election because of mail-in ballots. So
01:28clearly, it seems that Putin's message to Trump resonated pretty strongly with him and that he's
01:34following up and trying to take action to deal with mail-in ballots. Now, all of this, of course,
01:39really shows that Trump is very interested in the upcoming 2026 midterm elections. He does not want
01:46Democrats to take control over the House. He dealt with this before in his first term when Democrats
01:52won in the 2018 midterms, and it created a lot of headaches for him. There are a lot of investigations
01:56into his administration. He dealt with two impeachment efforts, and so he doesn't want a
02:01repeat of that. And so he is being very mindful of this upcoming midterm election.
