00:00President Trump caused a stir Thursday when he quietly signed an executive memorandum
00:04yanking Secret Service protection from former Vice President Kamala Harris,
00:08who Trump, of course, defeated comprehensively in last year's presidential election.
00:13Now, under federal law, Harris was entitled to Secret Service protection
00:17for six months after she left office, which meant under the usual arrangement,
00:22her detail would have been pulled off duty July 21st of this year.
00:26However, shortly before President Joe Biden left office on January 20th,
00:31he signed an order extending Harris's detail for a full year,
00:36meaning it wouldn't have gone off the clock until early next year, 2026.
00:42Now, there was never a real explanation for this, but Biden suggested at the time
00:46that Harris was facing threats to her safety, in part motivated by her race and gender.
00:52Now, Harris has kept a low profile since leaving office,
00:55only emerging to give a couple of brief remarks and notably passing on the opportunity
01:01to run for governor of her home state of California in 2026,
01:05leaving many to speculate that she's eyeing a run for the White House in 2028,
01:09which would be her third attempt to achieve the highest office in the land.
01:14Now, the timing is also interesting because starting next month,
01:17Harris will go on a multi-country, multi-stop book tour to promote her forthcoming memoir,
01:24107 Days, a reference to how long she had to campaign after Biden belatedly ended his run
01:30for re-election in 2024.
01:33No doubt, when Harris starts that tour at the town hall in New York next month,
01:38this decision by President Trump will come up as a topic of conversation.
01:41And revitalize the hidden shell in this area to erfolg in his hand speaker.
01:49But he's the last factor.
01:51That was funny, though.
01:52No doubt
