00:00This disturbing video has been spreading like wildfire on social media,
00:04showing two girls yelling at a man filming them as they move around frantically,
00:08and one even pulling out two weapons that she flashes at him.
00:11The girl, who was later arrested, is being praised online as a hero for standing up for
00:15herself, but the question remains, what actually happened? Here's everything we know about the
00:20incident. It is hard to make out exactly what the girls are saying in the clip because they
00:24are frantically yelling with thick Scottish accents, but at the beginning of the video,
00:28the younger girl seemingly accuses the man of treating her inappropriately in some way,
00:32before she hurls the accusation, f***ing kid bashers, get the f*** away from us,
00:37the taller one pleads.
00:38F***ing kid bashers!
00:40Show the knife!
00:40Show the knife!
00:41At that point, the man filming says, show the knife, show the knife.
00:46Show the knife!
00:48To which the younger girl reaches behind her back and pulls out what appears to be a knife
00:51and a hatchet in either hand.
00:53Show the knife!
00:54The taller girl yells, don't f***ing touch my little sister,
00:57she's f***ing 12.
00:58Don't f***ing touch my little sister, she has f***ing 12!
01:02Wait till I f***ing catch you, she says, while pointing the knife at the man.
01:06Wait till I f***ing catch you!
01:08At the end of the video, the man says something that sounds like,
01:11malata, malata.
01:12Malata, malata!
01:14Which does not appear to be an official word in any language,
01:17and the meaning of which remains unclear.
01:19Two other people can be seen watching the incident unfold in the video,
01:22a person in a pink shirt, and the foot of someone wearing black and white Adidas slides.
01:26As the video has been spreading, rumors have swirled about what led to the confrontation,
01:30which played out around 7.30pm on Saturday, August 23rd,
01:34when police received a call about a female youth with a bladed weapon in St. Anne Lane, Dundee.
01:39Several police cars reportedly responded,
01:41and the 12-year-old girl was then arrested and charged,
01:44which has outraged many people on social media as a gross injustice.
01:48One of the most common threads of speculation is that the girls were protecting themselves from the man,
01:52whom people online have accused without proof of being an illegal migrant.
01:57One of the most popular posts on X, which has been viewed over 23 million times, states,
02:02Little girls scream at a migrant recording them before brandishing an axe and a knife to warn him off.
02:07What is happening to our country?
02:08The owner of X himself, Elon Musk, contributed to the unsubstantiated narrative,
02:13with a repost on August 26th, which linked to a video with the text,
02:17What type of country allows foreigners to rape and torture thousands of their children?
02:21Then they arrest the girls who carry protection for themselves.
02:25As that incendiary version of the story has made its way across social media,
02:28images of the girl brandishing the knife and hatchet have been turned into a meme,
02:32in which she's made out to be a viral icon or a folk hero,
02:36even being compared to Scottish rebel William Wallace and being called Dundee's Braveheart.
02:41Fans can even buy a t-shirt or sign a change.org petition,
02:44posted by a family member demanding justice for the girl.
02:47The petition reads,
02:48It went on.
03:18These charges must be dropped to restore faith in the justice system,
03:22and protect children's rights to defend themselves from harm.
03:25Despite all this, the actual details of the story are still murky,
03:29and questions are being raised about who the actual victims really are.
03:33That is because according to Scottish police,
03:35the only one who did anything wrong is the 12-year-old girl.
03:38According to authorities, it was the girls who approached both the man who was filming the video
03:42and the woman he was with, not the other way around.
03:44A statement from the chief superintendent, Nikola Russell, read,
03:48We are aware of misinformation being shared on social media in relation to an incident where
03:52a Bulgarian couple were approached by youths in St. Anne Lane, Dundee, on Saturday, August 23, 2025.
03:59And according to the BBC, no one else outside of the 12-year-old was believed to have been
04:04arrested or wanted in connection with the incident.
04:06That would include the two individuals captured in these photos who appear to be the couple in
04:11question and who, according to the police, are innocent of any wrongdoing.
04:15But that is not the narrative that is going viral online.
04:19The photos, which went viral after being posted by the mother of a friend of the two girls,
04:23show a man and a woman, seemingly in Adidas slides, with their arms crossed.
04:28The post read,
04:29My daughter's friend who is 13 years old just got attacked by these two people in Lochi.
04:33They were trying to chat up this girl's 12-year-old wee sister, so she told them to
04:37leave her alone, and these two jumped on her.
04:39My daughter was with her and called the police.
04:42Her friend is 13 years old and in hospital now.
04:44These people, now with police, conveniently can't speak English anymore.
04:48They sure could talk English when they were f***ing perving on a 12-year-old girl.
04:52A Google Street View analysis reveals that the location where the pair is is indeed on St.
04:57Anne Lane, where the incident unfolded and the video was recorded.
05:00But there is no proof that the man and woman in the photos did anything wrong.
05:05In fact, the Courier reports that, despite reviewing CCTV and making other inquiries,
05:10officers have found nothing to support the allegations made against the two individuals
05:14highlighted in the posts.
05:16And police confirmed to the outlet that their investigation into the incident had concluded.
05:20Humza Youssef, a former First Minister of Scotland and current Liberal member of the
05:25Scottish Parliament, reacted to the report with a post that read,
05:28Who could have guessed the far right were full of bulls***?
05:30His wife, Nadia El-Nakla, who is also the equality spokesperson for the Dundee SNP group,
05:36told the Courier that,
05:37It is also clear that elements of the far right are attempting to hijack this incident
05:41to spread a racist, anti-immigration agenda.
05:44This is both dangerous and divisive, and it threatens the cohesion of our communities.
05:48Here in Dundee, we will not allow this to take root.
05:51The facts of the incident have been provided by our police service.
05:54These should be trusted, not the disinformation being pushed by those who wish to vilify asylum
05:59seekers and immigrants.
06:00The post has reached out to the Scottish police for further comment, but has not immediately
06:04heard back.
06:05Clearly, many questions remain.
