00:00I know that you're not only the star of the project but you're also the EP and
00:03I'm always so curious with actors when they sign on to be the EPs what makes
00:09them do that what drew you to this character this project where you said I
00:11want to be involved in every part of it love of kicking butt you know Frank
00:16kicks butt and then I kick butt as an EP no I'm kidding I mean you know you know
00:21a sense of you know of just having to put yourself totally immersed into this
00:27whole production you know it was evident when I read it that this was going to
00:30be you know a ginormously ambitious project in the size and the scope and
00:36you know in the place we were shooting in Alaska and that you know it needed every
00:40ounce of me to pull it off every ounce of my old bones to play this this action
00:44butt-kicking star and you know and to bring in and lead the way with the you
00:48know with the cast and the crew and everybody involved to make sure that we
00:51could realize it thinking of all the ambition to this story your introduction
00:55is kind of epic because you're just running like everyone would do in their
00:59morning Bob and then and then there's a moose it's a big moose isn't it too
01:03yeah I'm curious was that a real moose was it CGI how close did you get my own
01:13mind it was a real moose I wanted a real moose to I want to be you know there was a
01:19CGI moose but we had it on a stand they build it but you you can't help when
01:23you're shooting up in the mountains I've had that you know the giant elk and I've
01:27come across giant bears before as well and they're big you get a sense of the
01:30size of that you know we sat there and debated how far up that tennis ball went
01:34how big is that moose raise that tennis ball up you know yeah and you eyeball it
01:39it looked real I didn't it it's I was curious I want to know if you really had a
01:42standoff with that like gorgeous in my mind I did the very first fight scene when
01:47you guys get to the plane crash and you're ambushed by all of these inmates is so
01:51epic it's so brutal it is it's never ending there's a guy falling from a
01:55helicopter
02:06what was your favorite part of nailing that and what was the hardest I mean you
02:12know the guy remember there's a part where I unload I'm on the ground I stand
02:16up and I try to shoot one and then I'm out reload so the guy behind me in the
02:20background Lee Villeneuve is is the ex heavyweight jiu-jitsu heavyweight champion
02:27of the world literally the strongest man I've ever you know felt grab me so we'd
02:32rehearsed it a lot but then we're shooting on the snow on the hard packed
02:35ice so I did it on you know you can't do it too early because it's all
02:38continuous it does not stop so I don't want to freak out even though I know Lee's
02:42gonna come barreling at me I gotta shoot him once he's gonna take me on the
02:46ground he's gonna roll me over and over and over he's gonna pick me up and he's
02:49gonna slam me on the ground so we did all that and it went one most dangerous
02:53part is the roll I can't hold on or I will lose my knee and but he picks me up
02:58and I knew straight away I said holy moly I am way further off the ground than I
03:04should be you know in the moment and everything's going on he's so strong he
03:07picked me up and I thought this is it I'm gonna I'm gonna get knocked out here I'm
03:11gonna get knocked out and he slammed me down and you can see it in the in the
03:16thing you know you can't hear the groans the tent and the things where I can hear
03:19everybody groaning and you know my god Clark's out cold man and I was I was like
03:24you see I'm I mean there were stars I didn't know where I was and I thought if
03:28he picks me up and does it again I'm gone that's it that was the scariest
03:31moment and then there was like yeah there's a there's a feeling when you when
03:35you we all rush into that chopper the camera gets in the chopper my buddy's
03:38bleeding out I kick the dude out down the window he goes down to the ground and we
03:42just take off and you look at each other and you go holy moly man we just pulled
03:46that off yeah it's a it's a thrill you know it's it's a it's a level of
03:50execution that Sam brings with his team which made me happy to be part of you
03:55mentioned Simone is like your best friend's wife I thought she was
03:57fantastic what was like working with her and what was your favorite thing that
04:01she brought to the role you know you got I never work with friends that are that
04:06close normally because I you know you like a bit of familiar you know not too much
04:09familiarity but what she bought was just immediate depth of relationship we have
04:14a 25 30 year friendship you know and we were able to sink straight into that in
04:20our relationship so that we didn't need to hit you know where a husband and wife
04:23let's show it in this scene we just were you know and there's a there's a
04:26heart-eating scene there where she you know she asked me to consider what I'm
04:30about to do because the family can't take it anymore and I think anyone that's
04:34been in our business or even in life you get to those points in your
04:37marriage where um you need to you know we need to be a family rather than you
04:42know doing certain things separately and dangerously and that's what she bought so
04:46we you know we were like we're we're we're at a certain point in our
04:50relationship that people can relate to and and she brings a lot of sass and fun
04:55and strength and you know she's she she gets Frank out of the way when she needs
04:59to to protect the one she has to as well yeah little lioness New Zealand Kiwi lioness if I
05:05can ask a couple questions about some other projects because you have a lot
05:07going on yeah you're also playing Alec Murdoch in the Hulu series a very
05:11different character to Frank how did you find that transition and that challenge
05:16and is there anything that you almost think they might have in common yeah
05:19well look this we always find something in everything of course you have to it
05:23it's innately there and it comes in you know I couldn't have done Alec without
05:26doing something like Frank first you know the fact that I played a good man and you
05:30know all these things and and I had room to then go into a different different
05:34space mentally and emotionally the fact that I was in great shape after doing the
05:39Apple show made it very hard to put on so much weight and destroy my body like I
05:44did to play Alec you know you can't we couldn't do prosthetics because of a
05:47number of reasons and you know it's you at the end of the day you build it you know
05:54you got like Alec you've got it he's so known you mean so many people have seen
05:59that court case and no I mean all around the world so I had to get that accent
06:02right I had to get it to a point where I'm not faking being somebody this is my
06:09version of this man who ultimately does the unthinkable yeah and it was a wild
06:15crazy ride and it's a crazy story and our show brings out even more to what was
06:21going on inside a man who he saw himself as a victim yeah you know crazily enough
06:27you know and and I had Patricia Rockett you know to hold my hand and shove me
06:32and tickle me and beat me up and abuse me and you know and love me and all those
06:35things and she was such a great dance partner yeah another project you're in
06:39a house of dynamite which reunites you with Catherine Bigelow from Zero Dark Thirty
06:43which I think that was when I first did one of my very first jobs with Idris Elba too
06:47can you what was that working on that and are you excited about the early hype
06:51for it it's it's it's you know that is one of the best films I've seen in a long
06:56time I saw it you know in a screening you know by myself with anyone else and it was
07:02like a deeply disturbing movie you know it because the boom in Catherine's film in
07:08the house of dynamite it doesn't really happen on the screen it happens internally and she you know
07:13she she dances this in you know wild 25 minutes say 20 minutes in three different levels and just ends
07:22up leaving it with you you know as we go down to the thing and that's you know it's like I mean it's
07:27like a John did sort of point but it's like but it's like you're landing on a pinprick you know what I
07:31mean you it's like you're jumping out of a plane at high and you've got a that's your mark and to hit it
07:35and she hits it you know and I think same with broken camp on this you know every episode ends
07:41with a with a on a on a on a you know I am what do you call that a a cliffhanger boom the old you
07:49know the Stallone movie back in the day cliffhanger grab my arm check out my my muscles um it was um
07:56and that's what it is you know and to do that is really tricky you've got to get the story the
07:59script in the in the edit right and Catherine delivers that it's a powerful movie that's just gonna last
