00:00Trespassers cause more delays to trains than signal failures or track faults.
00:05But what's being done to try and reduce the problem?
00:08Well, I've come here to the Network Rail Control Centre in Three Bridges
00:12to find out what's being done and how British Transport Police are using drone technology
00:18to try and catch trespassers in the act and keep them off the railways.
00:22With the introduction of drones, the idea is we can keep boots off the ballast, so to speak.
00:26We can put a drone in the air, we can respond to the incident a lot quicker, clear the area
00:33or search the area and from then we can return the railway to normality as quickly as possible.
00:40Trespassers are a huge problem for us, it's something that we're constantly battling on a daily basis.
00:44It's the balance between managing the safety of that individual and the people that have to respond to that trespasser
00:51but also being able to manage an effective train service and getting people from A to B effectively on time
00:56which is what we know them after.
00:57This year we're seeing a little bit of a reduction in delay minutes
00:59but it would be too early to say whether that's a consistent trend.
01:02We know that Trespass has gone up over the last few years since Covid
01:07so it is a constant challenge for us to keep the railways running safely.
01:11See those next weeks!
