00:00The Drone First Responder Programme is about improving the efficiency and the effectiveness of policing on the ground.
00:07It's about providing immediate eyes at the scene of an incident through the latest and most innovative technology that we've got available to us,
00:15so we can better inform policing decisions and, most importantly, so we can keep our communities even safer.
00:21The Met said the new drones are quicker, quieter, cheaper and more environmentally friendly than police helicopters,
00:31but they claim drones will deliver the same operational effects.
00:37They will be used for a variety of incidents, including searching for missing people,
00:43tracing a suspect or arriving quickly to capture evidence at the scene of an incident.
00:50The project has actually already been launched in Islington,
00:55with the Met aiming to roll it out to two more sites across London before the end of the year,
01:03covering the West End and Hyde Park.
01:06Assistant Commissioner Lawrence Taylor, the national lead for drones, said the force is building a Met that is more precise and efficient than ever before.
01:18And this new technology gives them a vital new tool to tackle crime in the capital.
01:25We also have said drones traditionally are piloted by an individual who always has to be able to see that drone and watch it flying,
01:35but these will fly, these new ones will fly autonomously by itself to a scene.
