00:00Housing, or the lack of it in London, is perhaps one of the city's, if not its biggest issue.
00:12A third of London boroughs recorded absolutely zero house building in the first quarter of this year.
00:20Now it's been announced the proportion of affordable homes developers must provide
00:26when trying to fast track planning in London is being lowered from 35% to 20%.
00:33This is happening in an attempt to kickstart any residential development.
00:39Sir Sadi Khan originally raised the affordable housing threshold to 35% when he became mayor of London.
00:47But developers have argued this makes schemes unviable.
00:52Khan has also been under pressure from the Labour government as it seeks to meet its key manifesto commitment
01:01of building 1.5 million homes by 2029.
01:05The government has said these time-limited measures, which are subject to consultation,
01:12will help kickstart thousands of homes for Londoners.
01:16The government has said they also include the removal of design guidance that constrains density.
01:25Sir Sadiq is being handed new powers to fast track housing, including the ability to cool in
01:31and accelerate housing schemes of 50 homes or more, where local authorities intend to refuse them.
01:39It's a very very clean.
01:43Please.
