A detailed technical investigation into the landslide incident along Jalan Tun Sardon (Bukit Baru) in Balik Pulau, Penang, will be carried out once cleanup works at the site have been completed, said state Infrastructure, Transport and Digital Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari.

00:00A detailed technical investigation into the landslide along Jalantun Sardon, Bukit Baru,

00:19who inspected the site with State JKR Director Datuk Ahmad Nazri Abdul Majid on Friday,
00:24said the immediate priority is to complete the cleanup operations

00:32The route remains fully closed to all vehicles from 6pm on Thursday until 6pm on Saturday.
00:38Preliminary findings indicated that the landslide and slope failure were triggered by heavy rain and strong winds.
00:45Zairil said the area remains unsafe due to ongoing soil movement caused by water seepage,
00:52though continuous monitoring is underway.

01:25Apart from the critical slope failure at kilometre 5.10 of Jalantun-Sardon,
01:31assessments revealed 15 open slopes, 7 fallen trees, 4 rock falls and one case of road subsidence along the stretch.
01:39Zairil said that, overall, the Penang Island City Council, MBPP, recorded 31 fallen tree incidents,
01:48with prompt action taken in collaboration with the Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defense Force, MBPP's Rapid Response Team,
01:56the Geotechnical Division, District JKR offices, and police.
02:00He urged motorists to stay alert and drive cautiously, especially during heavy rain.
